Re: MS launches Outlook.com consumer email service (replacement for Hotmail)
Well you better get used to that unless you're a Mac/Linux user because that's exactly what Windows 8 and pretty much everything else MS releases for the next several years is going to look like.
I figured people would like the drag-n-drop and right-click interface in the web access. I don't think any other POP3/IMAP consumer service has that.
The GUI is plain but clean so it gets the thumbs up from me.Comment

Re: MS launches Outlook.com consumer email service (replacement for Hotmail)
It's clean but at what cost? I can see more messages on the screen with gmail, despite any ads and chat.
I really like the change, but just don't see a reason to switch.
I am looking forward to what the ecosystem looks like once 8 rolls out and have already upgraded my main PC at home, but I haven't changed my email in several years... and that was moving from my hotmail that I still have and just collects spam. Now I have several mailboxes streaming into my gmail account, all sorting nicely into appropriate tags, allowing for me to have 11k unread without losing my mind.
Outlook just looks like Gmail with some elements hidden and a blue bar across the top and the spacing sent to cozy.
I'm just a little frustrated with how they go about things. I've had a gmail account for a while now. I like it. They do a lot of things right. No doubt.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: MS launches Outlook.com consumer email service (replacement for Hotmail)
I hate how Outlook/Hotmail now since I joined the two is listing all my communication say with one person under one. Google did this and I hated it with a passion so one of the reasons why I left gmail. I know people like it, but not me. Anyway to have each email be it's own line item? I hope I'm explaining this correctly.Comment

Re: MS launches Outlook.com consumer email service (replacement for Hotmail)
Anyone add their outlook.com account to Exchange ActiveSync? Or does it only work through the Hotmail app on the phone? I want to add it to my Exchange but it keeps giving me a permissions error. Tried googling this but there isn't much details in adding this new outlook.com to Exchange and MS only provides a faq on the Hotmail app.Comment

I read somewhere that it will work with Active Sync, which was the only reason I even signed up for an account. Without Active Sync...meh.
I'm guessing they just have Active Sync disabled for now since it's technically still in the beta or whatever phase."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Alright, got ActiveSync finally working. The permissions error must have been an odd occurrence.
Anyone interested, here are the settings:
Email - full email including the domain (@outlook.com)
Username - full email including the domain (@outlook.com)
Password -
Server - m.hotmail.com
Domain - blank
SSL - checkedComment

Leave it to these knuckleheads to leave some form of Hotmail branding still involved. Although m.outlook.com is the mobile server for Office 365 so I guess that's staying for the business/commercial accounts only."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: MS launches Outlook.com consumer email service (replacement for Hotmail)
I've decided to give outlook a shot after making two previous posts last summer that I didn't like the look of it. Hotmail was giving me some issues the last few days and granted I now both Hotmail/Outlook are MSFT, I was going to go back to Gmail. I just don't like Gmail that much so will give Outlook a shot.Comment
