    Extracting audio from video file?

I'll just come out with what I'm doing.

Rock Band came out with The Cab DLC many years ago, and one of the songs was One of Those Nights. For whatever unknown reason, they released a version that was different than the actual album version (it also does not feature Patrick Stump).

Anyway, I actually like the previous version, so I just took my HD PVR and recorded the song without the crowd cheering in the background. Now I have the video, but I'd like to extract the exact same audio from it.

I've tried a couple of sites that spit back a low, crappy bit-rate. I even tried to copy the extract from Sony Vegas Pro and paste it into Audacity, but that didn't work.

Anyone know how I can do this, and still get good quality out of the song?

Make sure under preferences in Sony Vegas that under audio, you have Audacity as the prefered Sound Editor (or whatever editor you want to use for sound)
Then load up the clip in Vegas and right click on the audio (wave form) that's underneith the video section on timeline and select "open in audio editor". It will open Audacity and load in the audio. Save it to whatever form you want.

That's what I do except I use Audition for editor.

Damn, that works as expected, but I get this error message in Audacity that I previously had about not having a certain library downloaded (something in the FFmpeg library). I did download it though, so I'm lost with what to do at that point.

This is perfect, though! It will help me for editing in the future. Thanks a bunch! I'll let you know if I can somehow resolve this issue myself at this point. Maybe I'll try Audition.

So I wasn't ever able to get it to work because Sony Vegas 11 Pro is being a piece of crap, but I found another way to do it, and then I converted the MP3 back to an MP4 and uploaded it.

If anyone else knows or likes the song, listen to this mix I did with both versions, and let me know what you think:
