Wireless subs are fine, although I do believe they have their own power souce (plug).. It was such a breeze to hook up man, I recommend it

Yeah, I may float that by her, but could be a pain putting it in a good spot with line of site without looking stupid.

If the Yamaha sounds decent I'd rather just do that, and I could always attach my big subwoofer I have now if I need to.

My family room is 12X25 and the Yamaha sounds awesome in it. It has a sub input if you ever wanted to add one. I'm very pleased with it and the sound.

Perfect, thanks! I'll probably get one soon, just have to figure out when it makes sense. May not be for a month or so.

I'll let everyone know my impressions when I get them.

Re: Sound Bars: Which ones work the best?

One of the speaker outputs on my receiver died so I'm thinking of going the soundbar route to replace it. Just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly...

Is the best way to hook everything up to do HDMI from my cable box and PS3 to the TV and then use the TV optical out to the soundbar?

Any recommendations on soundbars other than those already posted in this thread?

Guess it depends on which one you get

I got the lg one so this is how it works for me. It has 2 optical inputs

I have one coming from the tv and one from my px5 headset

My xbox ps3 and whatever else can be hooked up to my tv via hdmi and come out of both the sound bar and the tv. Sound is great

Could anyone recommend a good one for under $200? Preferably dolby digital to use with my tv and 360.

I'm just not sure what to look for. My old sound bard didn't sync up with any audio.

Re: Sound Bars: Which ones work the best?

I ordered the Energy Power Bar Elite Soundbar for my parents for Christmas on Black Friday ($349, originally $599). Every person I spoke to (representatives, reviewers, etc.) pointed this one out for the best value of its price without me even tipping to them which soundbars I was looking at.

I don't know about ones under $200. The problem when you get that low is you're looking at probably pretty crappy ones, since most of the cost is probably in the subwoofer. If you already have a sub that can somehow work with it, definitely more power to you.

The Yamaha one in this thread earlier sounds good for about 200 (if you find sales)....I was gonna get it but don't really need it and am waiting before spending money right now.

Do you already have a sub? Definitely need one to have a sound bar be worth the purchase, IMO.

I have the Vizio VSB200 (goes for $60 refurbed or $99 new) and have been pleased with it. It's paired with a powered 250W Yamaha sub.

The best for under $200 is probably the Sony HT-CT150 (sound bar and sub)-- 3 HDMI , 2 optical and 2 RCA inputs.

MSRP has dropped from $300 to $188 on Amazon. Not sure how long that price drop will last.

The Sony is the one I bought last year. The audio never synced right with it.

I definitely want something digital not just amplified stereo.

You'll have to step up to 550 (it handles lossless audio tracks) http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HTCT550W-...gital+Soundbar

at the bottom, they have a comparison of their 3 models. You can look to see if the mid-tier 260 has all the bells and whistles you need (it's $60 less)

I think I might go away from Sony. I'm worried about the syncing issues cropping up again. I am thinking Samsung or Vizio.
