    Re: Boardwalk Empire (Season 3)

Never was a great SOP fan. I guess with all of the gangster movies pre-dating it, it didn't feel all that fresh. BE has this unique appeal of being a period piece of a time that has always been interesting to me. I think the show does a good job of juggling all of the characters and web of sub-stories that many series haven't been able to pull off, imo..... such as Hell on Wheels and Copper.

    And speaking of kinky:

This is my favorite show currently with the shows that are being aired now. There is so many personalities in the cast. Different characters can carry scenes at anytime or most of an episode if needed to be.

To each his own, but I never heard that criticism of The Sopranos before. I don't see how The "Godfathers", Casino, and Goodfellows make Tony and Crew "stale". It wasn't like there was an inundation of gangster flicks leading up to the show, or that those movies resembled the TV series in any way. If you're saying that those movies established a mob story over a several year period from WW II into the 80's and that because of that the entire mob angle had been used up I'd say, "You're kidding, right?" You'd have a better argument bringing up the fact "AJ Sucks!".

I totally agree with your take on BE. It's a great show and my current favorite drama behind Breaking Bad.

It's just my own perception. I'm not saying I'm representing some massive viewpoint..... only that it never really caught on for me. And I'm not going to lump the early gangster movies in with the more contemporary and less censored pieces. I've seen tons of westerns and western shows, but that's not what ruined Hell on Wheels for me. It was the eventual sloppy writing and rushed developments coupled with convenient meet-ups on a regular basis.

Personally, I don't really like Buscemi as being considered the lead actor as I don't see him pulling off lead actor weight. I see it as more of the success of the ensemble, much like in Mad Men.

Jack Huston who plays Harrow in a commercial for Guiness Black Lager. Saw this the other day on TV.

I hear ya' (about SOP). I just thought when the guys got together and talked shop it was pure gold.

Buscemi is dark enough, but a lot of fans can't take his comical face and built in sarcastic tone as seriously menacing. But I started taking his character seriously when he took out Jimmy. Slight disagreement.

Rosetti at the dinner table with his sisters/mudder was the highlight of the season for me so far. Classic stuff.

Pretty good scene with Rosetti talking his way out a whacking.
