    EMI error on YouTube

I recently posted a video I made on YouTube from my Road to the Show player. I won the World Series and made a highlight reel video. However, some people cannot view it and they receive an EMI error message. It says something to the effect of "this video contains EMI and is not allowed in your country." - the exact wording there is probably not correct but it is something similar.

    Here's the link.

I don't know if you can watch it or not. And either way, if anyone knows why I'm getting this I would greatly appreciate any info. I used a Smashing Pumpkins song off of Amazon that I bought for $0.99. I figured that might have something to do with it but it doesn't explain why some people can see it and others can't.

EMI is a music label. Houses artists such as Coldplay, David Guetta, & Katy Perry to name a few.

Chances are the song you used, is owned by EMI, in which they own a copyright claim that prohibits the use of this media in certain areas. You will still be able to view the video, but chances are, everyone else can't.

I can't see it. But yeah if you got music on there that you didn't make yourself, you have to remove it. Youtube and certain music labels are REALLY cracking the whip on copy right violations.

Far as who can and who can't, well it depends on where they live at. Some of your viewers might live outside of the USA.

        Re: EMI error on YouTube

Thanks for the quick replies and I believe you all are correct.

The song I'm using is Tonight, Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins. However, some people have been able to view it. And I think if you are logged into YouTube you can watch it. Can anyone confirm this? If someone has a YouTube account and can log in see if you can watch it.

Also, there's got to be some way to circumvent this system. Is it possible that EMI picks it up because its an officially bought copy (mp3) off of Amazon? If I were to get it off of a CD or from someone else that burned it, I wonder if would still be picked up. It seems kind of silly for me not to be able to use it for things like this. Its not like I'm distributing it.

And why can we listen to this? It just doesn't make much sense...

By the way, I hope this isn't against the TOS for discussing this. If it is, my apologies. I'm only looking for a way to get my video up on YouTube for everyone to see.

I'm logged in and still can't see. The thing is, if it is music and music ONLY, usually they will let it slide. How ever try to attach a song to a video game video, then yeah, all hell will break loose.

Youtube don't give a crap if you bought it or not. If you didn't make the song yourself, you can't use it with a game play video at all or any other video clip.

That's such bull. I don't understand the big deal with it. Are all major rock bands under EMI?

                Re: EMI error on YouTube

No, EMI is just one label.

It's not whether the artist is under the label anymore, it's what label owns the copyright to the song. In this case it is EMI.

YouTube has a way to scan the audio that you use in videos, and match it to existing audio files in their database. Like Shazam does. It scans the video when it uploads, and then flags your video for having copywritten content. Some labels don't remove the audio, just depends. EMI is one of the most notorious for taking down videos quickly.

The big deal is monetization. You have those on Youtube who make money off of Youtube videos. Grant it is no where as easy as it was years ago, but you can still do it.

So the problem really comes down to money. You make a video of game play and it get 50,000 views or more. You make money off that video. Guess who gets paid ?

You get paid, Google gets paid.

Record label don't get paid, video game company who made the game don't get paid.

Video game companies and music labels got highly pissed off and was about to sue the hell out of Google. Hence why Google cracked the copy right whip.

That's a major bummer for me. I've got an HD PVR and I was planning on making numerous videos like the one I made. Kind of a highlight reel set to music like you always see after a sports team wins a championship. Are there other websites where you can upload HD videos that don't have this problem?

I don't care about making any money. Surely there's a site where you can upload HD videos for anyone to see with copyrighted music that you've paid for.

What about photobucket? I have a premium account there.

Youtube changed the rules last year. You can no longer get paid from game play videos unless:

                            1. You are a partner with Machinima, Yeouz, TBN or some other company which name I can't remember right now.

                            2. Your game play video is a TUTORIAL of how to do some thing.

If you meet one of the two, you can make money off a video game video and Google will put ads in your video, usually the beginning or some where on the page where you are hosting the videos.

You see all the ton of ads OS has on this website ? Yeah they getting paid a hell of a lot of Google money from those ads.

But anyway they send the money directly to your bank account or if you prefer, they mail the check to your house.

Don't sleep on that Google money......people make 6 figures a year off of it.

Now lets say you don't want to do game play and still want some of that google money. As long as it is YOUR CREATED content, you can get paid of it.

Whether it be vlogging, singing YOUR OWN SONG THAT YOU WROTE, teaching people how to draw or how to do anything......You can get paid.

I know some guys who vlog on Youtube. Their fanbase is so big now that they pulling in $235,000 a year just from freaking talking to a camera.

This one guy made $25,000 off of ONE VIDEO in ONE WEEK.

And then I know another guy who don't really vlog that often, maybe twice a month if that and he still pulls in around $50,000 a year off of Youtube.
