This is actually the SEVENTH entry in the Parker Family saga.

The list:

1- The Phantom of the Open Hearth (1976)

2- "American Playhouse" - The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982)

3- A Christmas Story (1983)

4- "American Playhouse" - The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski (1985)

5- Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (1988)

6- It Runs in the Family/My Summer Story (1994)

7- A Christmas Story 2 (2012)

Those are all based on the Parker Family and written by Jean Shepherd, with the exception of the new one.

As you can see, A Christmas Story isn't even the original.

Having said all of that, this new entry looks ****ing terrible and Jean Shepherd is probably rolling in his grave.

Yes, this movie looks stupid, but this whole thing of the world ending on December 21st is even more ridiculous. Not happening.
