Re: Samsung Clowning the iPhone with this commerical

Staying on topic, the commercial was pretty funny and harmless to me.

I mean, it's not like they were saying anything that techies (even Apple "fanboys") weren't saying in the first place.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

Commercial reeks of desperation and pettiness. All it does is cement in everyone's mind the fact that Apple owns that market.

That's exactly my point, and the commercial just reeks of butt-hurt fanboyism. I mean, it's not even necessary... who is the commercial going to persuade? All it is is affirmation for those who already don't like Apple. Plus, this comes off the heels of Samsung being sued by Apple, and it just looks like a really pathetic attempt to get the last word in.

Like I said, the commercial was still kind of funny, but it's also completely transparent in revealing just how badly Samsung wishes to be a legitimate contender in this market.

Re: Samsung Clowning the iPhone with this commerical

Come on now, Samsung has been making these exact commercials for years, let's not pretend that this is somehow new and some desperate, petty response to a lawsuit.

Let's also not pretend that Samsung is some sort of mutt scrounging at the bottom of the heap, They are second only to Nokia in all cell phone sales and the largest smartphone maker (Samsung at 97 million, Apple at 47 million, HTC at 46 million), so I think that might make them a contender in the market.

I never said it was a "new" response, just that this is how it comes across with everything that has happened. Whether they've done these commercials for ten minutes, or ten years, the ads still feel like the guy who was dumped by the hot chic and is now trying to convince everyone he doesn't care.

Hell, I'm a completely Apple household, and I thought the Mac vs. PC commercials were pointless as well. Just show me what your product does.

Going after the apple haters is exactly what this commercial is going after. They know damn well that they can't and won't change the apple fanatics minds. But they can appeal to those that hate apple, of which those people have quite a few options to choose from.

But do you think most end users will even notice the performance difference from the iPhone 4S. Benchmarks dont sell phones, its all about the user experience.

That is exactly what the commercial did. They showed what the SG3 can do.

Apple lovers don't care, I've had them tell me 4G didn't matter and now that they will finally be getting it, it is great. When Apple upgraded the data symbol to say 4G on the not 4G phone, I LOL'd.

This is trying to get those people who buy into the Apple marketing and show them there are other choices. This is made for those people who don't need a "smart" phone, just a phone to get on FB, Twitter, etc and aren't Apple worshipers.

It is irrelevant if people notice it or not. What ever floats their boat and makes them happy, that is all that matters.

If people line up for hours on end for a cell phone of their choice, more power to them. Apparently they enjoy their user experience if they willing to stand in line for it for hours.

No different then people going to midnight releases for their favorite video game or even paying $50 to $100 more to get their favorite game a week early.

No different then people buying Jordans every year.

No different then people buying the same brand of TV every year just because it is a newer model.

Actually, Apple doesn't own the market. Android does lol.

You don't remember Mac vs PC? Also, and Steve Jobs statment that he would do whatever he could to destroy Android? Now that sounds like some serious butt-hurt. The commercial is funny whether you're an iPhone owner or not. The commercial pokes fun that those who line up for the phone when you could just preorder online or in a store. I just hate that the new iPhone doesn't have NFC.

They are, Nokia did over 400 million and Samsung did something like 360 million in 2011. A lot of that is probably very cheap phones in places like India, China, and such.

You probably think it's pointless, but it was that kind of marketing that set off mac. What's pointless to you, became worth undeniable amounts to Apple, for their mac division.

Commercial is funny, I don't get too strapped up in any of this, however Apple did start up a law-suit, if you want to talk desperation. A lawsuit, by the way, that they lost in every country except here, their home country.
