Windows 7 Updates
I just bought a new lap top from Staples. Every time I shut down or boot up Windows 7 wants to download updates ALL THE TIME. It takes forever! It is downloading 1 0f 40 right now. Do I really need all these updates or am I able to have the option of downloading them or not?Tags: None -
Re: Windows 7 Updates
You don't have to download them but it's highly recommended.
Go to control panel, Windows Update and change settings on the left hand side. From there you can choose when to install or just download and wait for you to install or just check. Either way you should update when you have some time. Most of the updates install in the background anyway except for a few that require restart and install during shutdown/restart. -
Re: Windows 7 Updates
Thanks for the help. It's frustrating having to wait so long for them to download. Last night I shut down the computer and it started to download 1 of 40. I said screw that, I just left it to do it. I wasn't going to sit there for an hour and half watching that. Then my wife turned the cpu on this morning and it said it was downloading 1 of 40 again! WTF?Comment

Re: Windows 7 Updates
I didn't know there were updates to download in the first place. I just went to shut down the cpu at the end of the night and it said downloading updates 1 to 40 please don't turn off. I just left it and went to bed assuming it would finish and shut off on it's own. When my wife booted it up the next morning it starting downloading updates 1 to 40 again! She couldn't use the cpu all morning, it took ages! I have took Altimus' advice and found where you can change it to only download updates with my permission.Comment
