    iphone 5 vs galaxy s3

I am planning on getting one of these phones friday. Does anyone have any suggestions which one is better? Preferably someone who's used both.

Haven't used either but I will never go back to iOS. I'm sure the s3 is more powerful, but it comes down to whether or not you prefer droid OS or iOS.

Apples phone is too dumbed down for me, and I will stick to droid with the ROMs. Plus I can't stand Apple phones anymore after their whole Samsung lawsuit. Totally frivolous.

It depends on what you want really. Neither is really better because they both are great at what they do. I'm not trying to beat around the bush or anything, but the only way you can come to that conclusion is to use both phones yourself. Check out a store with demo units and check the functionality.

Basically, everything it comes down to will be your personal preference. Do you prefer a 4.8' screen vs a 4' screen on the iPhone? Do you prefer Android or iOS? You would be better off checking out some of the bigger tech blogs/sites who have posted reviews and using the phones in store.

More than likely, someone else's opinion that you don't know on what to buy, probably won't fit you. Educate yourself and make the best decision.

Here are a couple links to some reviews.

      Galaxy S3

Samsung's latest superphone goes big where it counts -- a large HD screen, fast data support, and a sharp camera -- but it still faces competition with the HTC One X.

      iPhone 5
The iPhone 5 completely rebuilds the iPhone on a framework of new features and design, addressing its major previous shortcomings. It's absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe.

Thank you for this thread. I am making the same decision. I have had a 4 for two years and am not sure which route I wanna go. AT&T has a 1 month return policy so I might just test drive an S3 for a few weeks.

I still maintain that outside of battery life there is nothing an iPhone does better than the top level Droids. Been that way for a couple of years now. To each their own though, it's just a matter of personal preference.

            Swype
            Widgets
Customization/Launchers (Apex is great on ICS)
            Google Maps/Nav

And I just like the UI in general far more than iOS. I doubt I'll ever own an iPhone.

Why? The only difference between phones for the end users that ask these questions are the OS.

If you want customizability you go with droid. If you like Apples simplistic approach you go iPhone. Its not like I'm going to say "hey dude, get a droid. iPhones are a joke." Even if that is how I feel, its not my place to make up his mind.

Apple = fairly locked down (even with a jailbreak still limited), simplistic no-frills approach, good looking GUI.

Droids = Highly customizable, more features, less hassle than the Apple app store.

The iPhone is good for what it is, but the 5 isn't exactly groundbreaking. There decision to replace Google maps was a horrendous one as well. No NFC in the 5 as well.

Can you be involved in group messages with other iphone members with the SIII? Most of my friends all have iPhones and we do a lot of group messages. I don't want to get individual messages from each person.

You'll get it individually, however you can still reply through your group thing.

Lol, don't listen to this guy. He says it's personal preference, but goes on to give nothing but negatives about Apple and positives for Android. I'm not going into this debate but just don't listen to him. Formulate your own opinion because this is about as biased as they come.

Most of the time, when someone has to tell you that they own a device of the brand they are opposing, more than likely they are biased. You asked about GS3 vs iPhone 5 yet he felt the need to tell you he owned a Macbook, how irrelevant was that?

In-store demos, trials, and research is how you make your decision. Let opinions be a complement to your decision because YOU have to use the device, not me, him or her.

It is his opinion but it is pretty much facts.

The only thing I wouldn't agree on completely is the whole less features, more features.

You seem like a nice guy, but you are trying way too hard to be and sound unbiased. It's OK to have bias. This thread was made to gather opinions. I have both OS's, both are good in their own right. iOS is simplistic and that's great in some ways, where as Android has a lot more to its look and that's great in other ways.

Re: iphone 5 vs galaxy s3

I put down that I owned a MacBook because I know how online communities (OS in particular for some cases, I've been around here long enough) like to label someone a *****.

Nothing I listed for the iPhone is a negative, because it's almost exactly the same iPhone as before, just with a shiny new case. If you like iPhones, and the iOS more power to you. I'm not gonna knock you because what you want/need out of a phone is completely different than what I may want/need.

I like to customize my phones. I like the ability to over/underclock my processor, and undervolt my phone to see if what I do can eek out a few more hours of precious battery life.

The iOS is simplistic and easy to use. That's not a negative. It's more stable than the Droid platform (especially once you start getting in to flashing ROMs and such.) The downside of that is you lose a lot of the custom options.

I dislike iOS for phones, it's not my cup of tea. Like I said, it's all opinion. What he matters is what he is looking for out of a phone. Just trying to give my viewpoint on Droid vs. iOS.

If you use your phone as a GPS though, I'd highly suggest the droid. Apple screwed up their maps app pretty badly.

Almost as irrelevant as saying nonsense like "most of the time when someone tells you they own a device blah blah blah"

Thats not even remotely close to anything factual, so why bother with irrelevant posts no one can back up at all?

Forget it, I'll be that guy and keep it plain and simple.

If you just want a phone and use it as is get an Iphone 5.

If you are one of those customize geeks who like to customize every damn thing and show your creativity get a S3.

But to be honest, forget the S3, bypass that and just get the Note 2. It is just a much bigger version of it with a stylus.
