Anyone catch the premiere on Monday, I darn near missed it as the DVR picked it up.

I loved the first hour, I do like how they go back and forth between seasons to explain things and catch up.

Mark is freakin' flippy.

Mark is pretty twisted.

I found it entertaining but not the same without Joe Carroll.

I think we will have more episodes with Joe Carroll. I think he helps the FBI catch these freaks. Hardy and Carroll, working together like in last years final episode.

Tom, who is dating Max now, the new FBI guy, was in the last 24, who worked at CTU-London.

I liked this premiere much better than last years.

I don't think Joe Carrol was in last seasons premiere till the end of the episode.

Now, I have two good shows to watch, Blacklist and The Following till May.

I'm sure Joe will have a big role this year, I just find it not the same when he's not in an episode. Anyone else think Ryan's new girlfriend is a follower? Just something about her makes me wonder.

My gf and I are so happy this is back. Our favorite show to watch for sure. The premiere was more weird than good for us. Not a bad thing though.

The Ryan Hardy letting the killer slip away only to be tormented is getting old. This show has the feeling at it should have been a 1 season series with a definitive ending. The whole Joe Carrol building a following seems trivial now and it was the premise for the show.

The whole Joe Carrol building a following seems trivial now and it was the premise for the show.

Eh, most TV drama shows have patterns. A good example of that is 24 always had a mole working from the inside. I could count on Kiefer Sutherland saying throughout the series, We are running out of time.

Change can be good, but changing things up can bite you in the hind end, too. For example, seasons six of 24, most critics said that is when 24 jumped the shark when 24 went too personal in introducing Jack's brother and dad into the drama.

I'm enjoying this season's premise because it is different. Mark going after all the people that killed his brother and mom is typical revenge plot.

Here is a preview from the director of the upcoming season. At least we now where season three is going.

Everyone except for Mike seems to have moved on with their lives both professionally and personally. What went into the decision to jump ahead and what does this mean for the characters now that they get sucked back into trouble from the previous year?

We felt like it was important to reset a little bit. As we went into the season thinking about and looking at it as really the next chapter of The Following. The first two were really defined by the Ryan-Joe Carroll relationship, while Joe does play a big role in this season at the same time we were looking at life after Joe Carroll. It felt important to us to do a reset in order to really ground our characters in something of a new place to show Ryan as happy, instead of the sort of fake happy he was at the beginning of last season.

In order to give them things, especially him, that he cares about so we can cruelly start to stripping them away from him as we go forward into the season. That seemed really important and we wanted to advance into the future to give some things that happened with Mark, and obviously Joe Carroll's on death row and all that kind of stuff, time to sort of lay in the weeds. ... This season launched with what I think the show did really well in the first season which was the conspiracy which is the you don't know where the danger is going to come from part of the show.

Season 2 ended with a mystery about who picked up Mark in the car at the end of the finale. Will that be addressed and answered this season?

We actually answer that in the premiere. It plays very much into the beginning of the season. We kind of look at the season as three five-episode arcs. The first five are playing out the storyline that will involve that and then spinning off in different direction which is all of a piece, but ultimately looking at it as three five-episode arcs.

Joe is in prison and awaiting the death penalty as the season begins. Ryan is adamant that he's over Joe and won't go see him. How does Joe fit into Season 3 given that James Purefoy is still a series regular?

I'm going to be careful about it because I don't want to spoil it. The reality of it is during the first two seasons Joe did escape from prison several times and we didn't necessarily want to play that card again. That felt like a card we couldn't play again. So what we wanted to do was be conscious of not wanting to be Hannibal either. We didn't necessarily want Joe in there helping Ryan solve crimes or anything like that.

That being said though, they do have this unique relationship, one which Joe is very upfront about the importance of and one that Ryan Hardy will deny any chance he gets. The idea really was that Ryan starts the season in this place where he is "over Joe." And when we do get to a place where Joe does come back into Ryan's life, does he start to infect Ryan again, so to speak, what does that do to Ryan? Is he really over Joe or does he start to ultimately be affected by this unique relationship that he does have with him? And, obviously given that this is The Following, this won't be sitting around having tea together either. There will be a very dynamic storyline with the two men and some violence involved as well.

Joe's mentor, Dr. Strauss, played by Gregg Henry is back from last season as a series regular. What role does he play this season? Is he a mastermind from prison or there more to him?

Arthur Strauss is actually in prison awaiting trial when the season begins. Obviously, viewers who saw last season know when he interacted with Ryan and was ultimately arrested it wasn't necessarily-- I mean he wasn't just thrown in jail. He was a little bit -- he was grabbed and put in a secret location because the hunt for Joe Carroll was such a big thing. Obviously that's going to affect his upcoming trial. We do start with him in prison awaiting trial, but I think it's safe to say he's got tricks up his sleeves that will ultimately play out through the season.

So we will see some of the trial?

We will actually see some of the trial and what happens after the trial. And again without giving too much away, it doesn't necessarily go well for the good guys.

Sam Underwood is amazing playing Mark and when he played Luke before. At the beginning of the season, he's still playing both in a way. What's going on with Mark psychologically at this point?

Sam is phenomenal. That Mark/Luke relationship, those twin boys, last year was so much fun. As we entered the season, given that Luke was killed last year, we started to think about what effect would that have on Mark. Luke was the dominant personality, he was the more confident twin. Mark comes into the season having lost not only Luke, but his mother, who really are the only two people in his life who meant something to him.

What would that do to him psychologically?

For us, coming into the season the fact that Mark is channeling his dead brother is a fascinating thing for an actor to play, but also for us felt organic. It's not that Mark doesn't know that Luke is dead. He does, but he is also so afraid of being alone that what he does is turn to his brother so to speak when he needs someone to be supportive and sometimes even to step in for him if he's afraid and stuff like that. We thought we have this character who is a killer but at the same time it's such a tragic story that we thought it was kind of wonderful.


Eh, so much for my theory of Joe helping Ryan Hardy, lol.

Show isn't as good as season one but I still like it ok. My girl gave up on it, said that the suspense it had in season one is totally gone, now it's just to much crazy and doing things just to see how crazy they can make people.
