I recently upgraded (parts for the CPU are on the way) my computer setup and it included getting a new monitor. However, an issue did arise because the monitor does not have any component inputs. Which isn't a problem while just gaming because it has 2 HDMI inputs so I can plug in both my CPU and my PS3.
The issue is that when I want to record my gameplay I have no way to with my HDPVR since it only has component inputs and outputs and my monitor only accepts HDMI. Additionally I know that most built in software will not allow PS3 recording in HDMI due to HDCP. However, I do hear that can you still preview the video and record that via software like FRAPS.
So here is what I basically want to do. I know my HDPVR doesn't support HDMI. I know that I just upgraded my CPU and it is pretty high end now. What I would like to do is get a capture card to insert into my CPU that way I can game through the CPU with my capture card but this would require a capture card that would allow me to do this without lag because I know that I can't do that with my HDPVR, I would also like some way to be able to keep using my PS3 with HDMI if possible.
So the questions I have are,
1. What kind of capture card can I get that would allow me to play my PS3 on my CPU without any lag?
2. Is there a way to still play with a PS3 on HDMI?
3. Should I just ditch my PS3 and get a 360 where I know I can record with HDMI? (Since I just spent so much money on my CPU this option would require getting rid of the PS3 to satisfy the wife.)
I would like to get some help from you guys out there who know more than me. I am really leaning towards getting a capture card that I can plug in my CPU now since I upgraded it instead of a USB one like my current one.
