It seems that way but every season has been almost exactly one year apart (give or take a week or two), except from season 4 to 5 which was one year, nine months.

From Season 1 to 2- 1 Year, 8 Days
From Season 2 to 3- 1 Year, 20 Days
From Season 3 to 4- 11 Months, 22 Days
From Season 4 to 5- 1 Year, 9 Months
From Season 5 to 6- 1 Year, 13 Days

It just seems long because most shows only take off 4-5 months, and get shown in syndication in the time in between.

Yeah, but a lot of the ones I watch or have watched have the longer break. (Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Sons Of Anarchy, Justified, etc., etc.)

Probably a week or two before season six. That's when they release most shows.
