You better believe people en masse are going to pirate it. Most college students already have things like BitTorrent and UTorrent. Microsoft is going to end up losing money...

You don't even need to pirate it. Just get open office for free. I've used it for 4 semesters now and have never once had an issue with it. Does everything I need it to do.

Yeah. I just got that this semester.

I was talking as far as my school goes. A majority are either going to continue using the campus's computers or are going to pirate it.

Based on the responses...no read the actual article. The annual price point is for office 365 not stand alone office. The prices posted in the OP are referring to the stand alone versions...they are not charging annually for those.

The more interesting point is the lagging sales due to lack of a need to buy a new version. I still have and use Office 07..no need for 10. So I suspect MS will once again create new file extensions necessitating the need for a newer version.

Haven't really kept up with this, but if I needed more than the capabilities of Google docs on a regular basis $100 is nothing really.
