Any ebook reader users here?

I have a ton of ebooks (mostly textbooks and articles) on my computer, obtained by various means, but I can't stand reading them on my computer. Either I get tired of looking at the screen after an hour or two or I always get distracted, like by posting here!

I don't need a tablet. Between my laptop and my phone, I can't justify spending $500+ on a decent tablet just to read some books.

So what I'm looking for is what you guys think are the best ebook readers, or someone that is more in the know than me, can recommend something. I know there is Kindle and Nook, and I've heard things about both, but I don't know more than 1 or 2 people with them and don't get much feedback other than they like them.

I need something where it is easy to transfer files (or get them off my network). A reasonable amount of storage would be nice. I know SD card readers are rare on the current models. I only need Wifi. A model that is easy on the eyes is nice as well so I can avoid the problem a computer screen gives me after awhile. Lots of battery life is a plus, so I can read comfortably over a vacation and not really need to bring the charger.

So anyone on OS have or used one, or is one model in particular better than others? Or do most of you use tablets?

There are some very cheap entry level tablets. The Kindle Fire HD is really nice but a bit locked down from my experience with it. Amazon has certain apps they approve for the device or something and others are a pain the buttock to track down and sideload on the Fire HD.

The Nexus 7 is the one I currently own, but it has durability issues as well as a little bit of lag when scrolling through menus and such. After owning a couple of months, i'm not too sold on the Nexus anymore. It's just not as fluid as I expected it to be and I think that can be attributed to the amount of RAM the device has.

I'm waiting on Samsungs announcements at the MWC. The Galaxy Tab 3 is rumored to be announced and it is being speculated the starting point will be $150. I mention Samsung because the Galaxy SIII is what really set the bar for Android performance for me coming from the Apple ecosystem. It wasn't until I got the GS3 and switched back and forth between the Nexus 7 depending on the task that I noticed the lag in the Nexus 7.

If you don't want to go the Samsung route, i'd take a wait and see approach because the announcements are set to start rolling soon.

I had a Nook 1st Generation, and just got a Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight for Valentines Day!

The Simple Touch is great, smaller, better resolution and refresh speed, just a great e-reader. Light is awesome for night reading, can't complain one bit!

I use the online aspect of my library, so I read a ton of ebooks for free.
