Just watched the premiere. Scratching my head at the firefighters who were first eliminated. Now they already knew they were in last place after they fell off their boat a few times. The two teams ahead of them were taking the 4 hour penalty. Why didn't they go back and try the sandcastles again? Surely they could have found the clue within 4 hours after already spending 3 there. They would know what area of sandcastles to avoid.

I assumed that once you take the penalty that there's no going back to the last challenge. I could be wrong though. If that's not the case, I guess they were respecting the pact with the other team they made to take the penalty. It would've been smart for them to go back, but also kind of weak to me. If I was playing I probably would've just taken it as an L too.

Jeez, what a good start compared to last season. That sandcastle challenge was so simple yet awesomely challenging. The canoe also wasn't as easy as it looked.

I was wondering the same thing about the firemen going back to the sandcastles, but since the other two teams reached the checkpoint first wouldn't that automatically eliminate the firemen? I was confused about that.

So far I haven't been too influenced to root for a team in particular...

I thought the same thing, but then Phil tells the 2 teams that took the penalty "I understand that the 3rd team also took a penalty" which to me kind of interpreted that if they went back and found a clue, it wouldn't have technically been a penalty since they still completed the challenge.

And yes that sandcastle challenge was pretty well thought out. I wouldn't have thought that it'd be that hard, but I guess 3 hours under a hot sun can get to you.

I was scratching my head to one of the teams that said "I was going back to the sand castles the other teams went through in case they didn't dig deep enough" WTF? lol

My favorite would be the father and son duo.. just because they seem to be the only sane ones there. Surfer couple are really annoying as is the youtube team and the husband/wife team that took the penalty. Something about them annoys me.

I think you incur the penalty when you ask for the next clue, not at the mat, so they couldn't go back.

The one thing I didn't get is why any team would take a 4 hour penalty? If you just started and you found out that every team is already 3 or so hours in and haven't completed it, then maybe you consider it, but not at a time like this.

No matter how long they're out there, there's no way it'd take 3-4 more hours to finish that challenge(the team that struggled the most seemed to have taken 3 or so hours). So by taking the penalty with the 2 other teams, you're putting yourself at risk of being eliminated(at the boat part) or even if you make it, in the next pit stop, you have a 50-50 chance of being eliminated(since both your teams are already in last place, PLUS an extra 4 hours behind,and based on the preview for next episode, they're not getting on any plane,so no getting lucky with catching up on flights)

My fave teams so far:
Doctors, Hockey players and the father/son team. Newlyweds team looks like they could be good too,but after taking that penalty, they might be out next.

I just hope we don't see taxis ruining teams. Last season was one of the worst taxi seasons ever.

If that's the case, what I would of done would have gone to the guy giving out the clues.. and when the other 2 teams grabbed their clues, I would of yelled out YOINK! and then went back and tried to finish the challenge.

But I think having to state it to the camera was the official penalty announcement.

Like how when they do the U-Turn, in order for it to be official, they have to tell the camera their decision.

Personally, just from the introductions, I'm going for the father and son team. The newlyweds can go to hell, I have a strong feeling that I'm going to hate the surfer couple, and I hate the Alabama team for living that stereotype that gives the state I grew up in a bad name.

Who is the surfer couple? Nobody from this season is a surfer?


Though my least fave couple is that youtube team, hated them alot from the start, and hope they're out by next episode.
