    720p/1080i Issue. Looking for help

So as a background, I don't consider myself an expert on TV's but at the same time I'm not in the dark on them. I've done all the troubleshooting I could possibly do and am lost on this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two tv's side by side in my living room. One is a 36 inch Sharp Aquos and the other is a smaller 27 inch Dynex.

I generally keep the playstation hooked up to the smaller TV and the cable box to the big one.

The PS broadcasts in 1080i on both TV's just fine.

The issue is with the cable box broadcast.

    To give an exact scenerio:

An hour ago, I was watching the Avalanche-Blue Jackets game on the PS through Gamecenter. It was broadcasting in 1080i on the big tv just fine.

At the same time, I had the golf tournament on the small TV from the cable box and it was broadcasting in 1080i just fine as well.

When the hockey game ended, I switched the HDMI cable back from the small TV (where it was broadcasting in 1080i) to the big TV. It's still on the golf tournament but is now broadcasting in 720p.

To put this in perspective, I just got the smaller TV about a week ago. For awhile I had asked why I wasn't getting a 1080i signal on my TV and Comcast told me they didn't broadcast in 1080i.

As dumb as it sounds, knowing Comcast I said okay and left it at that but now that I got this other TV I noticed the SAME cable box is broadcasting 1080i on my smaller TV but 720p on the bigger TV.

Like I said, I've messed with settings and troublshot anything I could think of.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Could it be the difference in the size of TV's???

What is the native resolution on each tv?

Size of the tv has nothing to do with it. Does it stay at 1080i if you go into the settings and manually change it?

So this is where I will show my naivety.

I don't know how to find the native resolution on the big TV nor can I find settings to force it to 1080i and I have looked EVERYWHERE, including throughout the manual.

I bought the TV back in 2007.

But the thing that makes this weird to me is when I first bought the TV I had Direct TV and had no problem getting the channels that broadcast in 1080i to do so.

I remember back then, CBS broadcast there NFL games in 1080i and Fox didn't.

So it worked fine with Direct TV but not anymore. The manual is giving me nothing of help.

Check the cable box settings, the boxes default to 1080i, but when set up it might have been switched to 720p by the installer and the box might be smart enough to remember settings based on the HDMI handshake.

With the TV and cable box on, turn the cable box off using the front panel, then immediately hit Menu on the front of the box, it should bring up the user settings menu.

Should have TV type, then next it should say HDMI/YPbPr output. Whatever it says after that is what the box is set to output.

On the remote, use the up and down arrows to scroll and the right arrow to select. Use that to select the resolution you want.

To exit the menu, power the box off then turn it back on. Now plug the HDMI cable into the other TV and repeat the process to select resolution you want for the other TV. IIRC cable boxes won't dynamically switch resolutions with the exception of 4:3 override where it will display standard def channels without letter boxing or up-scaling.

I could be wrong on the cable box remembering settings for different TVs, and that procedure might not work anymore/or with comcast, and my recollection might be off about the box changing HD resolutions, but it is worth a shot and you can't break anything with these settings.
