I actually really liked the Seinfeld finale. It was made in the same tone the whole series had. There was never a moment in Seinfeld where any moment was touching. It was all dark humour. It would have felt weird having the characters saying these emotional goodbyes to each other. The finale was goofy just like the series had always been. I thought it was perfect.

Man way too many leaps of logic and dangling threads (the diamonds Deb still had anyone??)

          Just all over the place.

And I get the final scene, I really do but its another leap of logic contrary to what they set up all season. Well its over now and probably not a show bid rewatch again like others I enjoyed.

Its not making it all in his mind, its almost that time stopped while he was in there and we were seeing all the events that put him there. I think it would have been a far better ending but it would have had to been shaped by the last 2 seasons entirely since clearly it wouldnt fit with the way the last 2 seasons played out.

What about the bloody stuffed animal that Harrison had from the very start of the season when Dexter attempted to throw it away only to have Harrison somehow find it and it ultimately being tucked under the bed in a drawer? I thought for sure that would have been something that came up at some point during the course of the season yet it was never brought up again. The whole LaGuerta killing was completely pointless imo, other then paving the way for Deb to be completely unstable to start the final season but the death itself and the culminating "investigation" went absolutely nowhere as well.

                  Re: Dexter (Season 8)

There definitely are a ****ton of logic leaps or whatnot, just in the finale episode alone. You have Dexter going into the hurricane and somehow surviving, Saxon pistol whipping that one guy and stealing his car in a parking lot full of people and nobody bothers to notice, Hannah injecting Elway in a bus full of people and no one sees this or hears their conversation, etc, etc.

That being said, I can honestly say I'm somewhat satisfied with how they ended things, at least in terms of the two main characters of Dexter and Deb (aka the only important characters). Once I accepted that they weren't going to go the route I and just about everyone else wanted them to go, it was a lot easier.

It sucks that they made so many missteps and made the show a parody of itself, but what they did with Deb crushed me and that pretty much saved the finale for me.

And I'm also okay with how Dexter ended up. Yes, he was never truly revealed to be who he was to the mass public, but if you think about it, he ultimately suffered the worst punishment possible. Him being caught wouldn't have affected him as much as him getting his own sister killed. His own sister who was pretty much his heart and soul and moral compass. They made it clear Dexter wanted to be "human" and was emotionally attached to everything he was using as a cover for a real life. Now he has none of that and is living in complete silence. That's why I kind of like the final shot, because there isn't even a voiceover there. It's just silence and emptiness.

I think what would have been even more effective would be, instead of just dropping Deb into the ocean, Dexter held on to her and went in with her, but whatever. I guess it is fitting that there was one last missed opportunity in a show full of them.

                    .

I completly agree with the article that Quint posted the morning.

The first problem with the handling of Deb’s death is the lead-up to it, because Dexter is a show about what his titular character wants, and Dexter stopped giving a **** about Deb a quite ago. Sure, Dexter has paid lip service to how it’s a priority of his to protect his younger sister, but the Dexter who was redeemed by Hannah McKay’s love isn’t the same one we saw in the first half of the season.

The season began with Deb’s downward spiral, and Dexter hoping Vogel could reunite them after he realized how important Deb was in his life. But once Hannah waltzed back into the picture, Debra became an afterthought. Dexter didn’t care that Deb hated Hannah. In fact, he leveraged his sister’s unconditional love so he could use Deb's home as Hannah's safe house. Oh, and that time Hannah tried to murder Deb with a drug-laced drink? Bottled water under the bridge. When Hannah asked Dexter to come to Argentina and leave Deb behind, he said yes before she could even finish the question. Then, when Dexter told the allegedly all-important Deb he was moving to a foreign country, and she was bummed about it, his response was basically “Yes, but think what you can do with the frequent-flyer miles! Priority boarding. Complimentary business class upgrades. You’re welcome, sis!”

Figuring out Dexter’s basic motivation has been nearly impossible since the season premiere. But Dexter’s throughline can be summarized thusly: “It’s crucial to win back my sister, but she isn’t all that important after all if I can be with Hannah

                      Great post BnG

I would've loved to see Dexter off someone at the end, but hey..guess he doesn't have the means to follow the code, if it even means anything to him anymore..

I don't know. People choosing loved ones over family is nothing new. That never meant he still didn't care about Deb or anything.

I can agree it diminished what it should have been to most people. I just know with me, after 8 seasons, it killed me to see what happened to Deb, no matter how ****ty this season has been and how much of a downward spiral the show as a whole had taken. After 96 hours, you're going to develop some type of attachment to characters.

What made it even worse was all of the **** Deb had already been through. Just think of the entire arc of her character. It's incredibly depressing. I was still depressed about it after I woke up this morning. Even when Dexter started driving off into the hurricane (of course it was named Laura...) for what looked like his demise, I had no feeling about that. I was too busy shedding tears over Deb.

I couldn't feel anything about Deb's death because it was done so poorly. It was off camera and done so matter of factly that it held no weight for me. It was a total insult to the audience and Jennifer Carpenter that they treated the death of a main character (and almost important as dexter, sometimes even more) so casually. Like everything else this season, it was amateur hour.

So I wonder if everyone assumed Harrison died on the boat with Dexter or if Elway ever woke up and told anyone one that Hannah fled the country with him.
