    Re: Marvel: Agents of Shield

I thought it was good, had the same type of charm the Marvel movies had. However I'm really curious how they plan to build these season storylines, for example Arrow captured me in right away with the hero and a few villains I recognized. Hopefully they do eventually being in some recognizable heroes or villains(not necessarily big name ones).

I have a feeling if we're going to see heroes/villains it'll mainly be street level ones though I noticed Extremis named dropped as the cause of Michael's anger and the cause of the explosion at the beginning of the episode. Extremis is tied into Iron Man comics.

        Re: Marvel: Agents of Shield

I pretty much didn't like it at all. Aside from Coulson all the characters were very generic and shallow. The tech guy was especially bad, not only the ticks, but if you are going to have someone spout technobabble you can't have the guy with an unintelligible accent doing it.

They didn't utilize anything Marvel. Aside from some set dressing, the show was generic.

I expected the show to be that blend of comedy, action, and solid story that is Whedon's thing, but the comedy was entirely too corny, the action was ****, and the story was gossamer.

Maybe I expected too much, they have a huge well of stories and characters to draw from, to fill in some of the things that just aren't big enough for a movie, but yet too big to gloss over, all in the trappings of a high end network production. What I got instead was shallow created for the movie universe characters, with very little Marvel lexicon, a brittle new plot, all wrapped in the trappings of a mediocre SyFy show.

I'll not give it up yet, but I was seriously bored and disappointed.

Yeah same here. It started off pretty slowly but got better as it went on.

So is Agent Coulson a LMD (Life Model Decoy)?

Just caught it and I'd say it was 6/10. Good enough to get me to tune in for the next couple of episodes. I agree with Burns in that they should utilize that Marvel chest instead of feeding us run-of-the-mill characters which could easily feature in similar shows.

I want to see Marvel's b-list/c-list characters, not made for TV nobody gives a **** about character (as of the moment, anyway).

I'm going to assume that he is. Seems to be what they hinted at.

Watching this cheesy mess is the same thing that turned me off Iron Man 3. Certainly after watching Shield it made me sad Alphas was cancelled. I didn't think 90% of the jokes were funny and I'm not an hardcore marvel fan so I'll prob miss a ton of references.

I'm not sure what you're expecting here. I'm not expecting some big budgeted stuff. I'm of the firm belief that this will mainly be be plot driven street level type stuff. It's not like they totally disavowed anything Marvel. Extremis was a plot element, the Shikari was named dropped, While the Michael guy isn't Luke Cage I bet in the TV/Cinematic universe he'll end up with the handle and be a part of the show later in the season. etc etc.

It's going to take time to build the Marvel world on television, let's not rush it.

                        Re: Marvel: Agents of Shield

How about using some elements of SHIELD from the comics? There are a ton of characters they could have used from the comics, but instead they make bland, shallow new characters. Why invent some new guy when you have characters that won't ever even be close to seeing the movieverse in any meaningful way?

Like I said, I was hoping the show would be filling in stuff from the comics that just won't fit into a movie, instead we get a bland generic procedural that's just like a ton of other shows only with a little Marvel set dressing.

I was worried after the opening sequences that this would be really cheesy, but the more I watched the more I was intrigued. Definitely going to give it a few more episodes, at least, because we all know that pilots aren't always the greatest.

Watched it. Thought it was okay. It actually made me laugh out loud a few times too (mostly from Gregg).

I wouldn't say it was cheesy, but I would say despite the big budget moments, it can play very small budget in moments as well (specifically in the characters and writing). Also, I pray it doesn't get too wild as it already is. Too much tech for my taste, and I love Person of Interest.

Just keep it grounded, and you'll keep me tuned in. Otherwise, I can serve my time in better ways. The Marvel Universe hasn't grown much on me since the first Iron Man movie, despite the fact I've seen all the films.

What worries me about this show is Marvel.

They had a really bad knack for starting something on tv and never finishing. You'd find yourself just getting into episodes then blam, you won't see another for a month for no reason at all, and no explanation.

I really hope they don't screw this show up but im not hopeful. Its like somebody in the boardroom always changes his mind constantly.
