Lost Serial Code For Vegas 12; Will Sony send Me a New One?

Hey guys. My brother got Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 a few years ago and never used it. I installed it on the computer a while ago before starting my YouTube channel, but can't find the packaging/serial number now. I emailed this to the customer service for Sony Vegas. Any chance they send me a new serial number? I don't want to spend another $100 on something I technically already have.

They'll probably charge you.

You need to come up with a story that its their fault your product key isnt working. Then maybe they'll throw you a bone and give you a free key.

I'm in a similar boat with Microsoft Office that I'm going to try and resolve.

I bought my laptop at Best Buy three years ago with a product key card, for one-time usage. I figure I might have thrown it away after using it, or at least I no longer know where it is. Anyway, I once sent my computer in for repair (with Geek Squad), and they replaced my HDD without informing me. I guess it was okay since I had everything backed up, but I hadn't figured I would lose Microsoft Office.

Best Buy/Geek Squad says that I can contact Microsoft about getting a new key, but Microsoft said that in order to give me a new key, I need the serial number of the purchase on my original card. So right now I'm in this deadlock battle between forcing BBY to issue me a new key card, and getting Microsoft to come to terms with this hiccup that I'm having. I'm thinking the former should be handled with a bit more strongly, and that's the approach that I'm going for.

If you have the disk, tell them that and that they need to give you a key to use it. If they won't listen and want to charge you for a new key, which is most likely the route they will take .... then its time to search google, you already paid for the license

Also if there is an online DRM/account used in the software, maybe you can leverage that to get the key.

If you still have it installed on your old computer, you can find programs that snips the key from the registry that it's installed on.

Otherwise, I think your SOL.

With everything being pirated, unless you can show them proof of purchase, I can see the company (and Microsoft for the other user) saying you'll need a new key.

BLZR, if you bought the laptop and Office from BB, you can ask them to search for your order. Then possibly use that and get a new key from Microsoft.

BLZR, if you bought the laptop and Office from BB, you can ask them to search for your order. Then possibly use that and get a new key from Microsoft.

My story is a lot more convoluted than that. I still have my order pickup number from three years ago, and they can't find it in the system. This one particular order is an anomaly, in that we can't pull up a receipt for it. Even if we could, receipts don't have serial numbers on them.

I'm going into a BBY store to have this taken care of, I just haven't had time to do it yet. Hopefully they can just reissue me a brand new card.

My awesome mom found the recepit from when she bought Vegas a few years ago, and now I have a new serial number. I've got Vegas!
