    Re: Ray Donovan

As I was watching the season finale I was thinking this looks like a "contingency finale" that could serve as the SERIES finale. I didn't realize the show got a season five renewal a month ago.

The show was all over the place and the solution was executed to an unrealistic perfection (great security detail on Dimitri ), but it was nice to see the family come out of this in one piece.

        I agree.
When the Donovan's took care of the Russians so easily I thought, why didn't they do that in the beginning?
For such a connected, dangerous guy, he should have hired more than 3 security guards.

The season was pretty good, but I'm kind of hoping S5 is the last.
I noticed last night that every season has wrapped-up nicely in a bow. There's really not much spilling over from one season to the next.
A new badguy is introduced, Ray thwarts them, family is unified. Repeat.

And didn't it feel like they threw away story arcs just for the heck of it?
They scrapped the Bridget-teacher relationship unceremoniously.
And what about that kiss that Terry and Abby shared?
Heck, even Abby's affair was wrapped-up too neatly.

And his FBI informant. Suddenly he didn't have enough dirt on him to force his hand?
The guy goes from a sniveling peon to heroic agent overnight?

I hope in Season 5, Ray gets back to being more of the fixer. Even if the fixing isn't always connected.
And I don't want it to take such a serious tone either. More Mickey. More Ira. More Hank Azaria, More of that producer who he cornered by making him think he had the FBI on his butt.

At this point, I'm way more interested in the kid Terry's training.
While it would be very unrealistic, I hope that they have him fight Hector.

Also the early prison releases of Terry and Mick. They are great at "wrapping".

              Time to end the series.
I've grown tired of watching Ray walk around in a drunken stupor getting the crap kicked out of him physically and emotionally.
It feels like it's been going on for 3 seasons now.
              Enough is enough.
Pull up your big boy pants and get your house in order. You're Ray phaahkin Donovan!
You're THE fixer! Stop drinking, and start fighting back and make everyone aware of who they're dealing with.

If this is how the series is going to continue progressing, I may check-out sooner than later.

I left HBO after the boxing cancelation and then followed suit with Showtime after looking at their upcoming fight schedule. Ray Donovan never was a factor in me keeping a subscription for the latter. The show has been on a decline but last season was nearly unwatchable.

I will be back with a streaming ShowTime subscription when season 4 of Billions premieres.

I thought last season was going to be the end of me. I know they were going for something different, but last season was BAD!!!!!!!!

This season started out pretty bad too with that first episode, but afterwards, Ray got back into the game and freshened up really helped pick the series up again. I haven't seen the latest episode from 12-16-18 yet, but i hear he's back to Drunken stumbling Ray which is why i hated the first episode of this season so much.

Maybe the series does just need to end.

BTW Billions is godtier. Love that show too!

I have enjoyed this season actually.

If you think about it, Ray has lived through some serious sh*& without ever addressing it. He keeps pushing in the only way he knows how. This season he is playing out The Hole in the Dike Story, pushing everybody that has cared about him further away, without truly meaning to do so. At this point, I don't see how he pulls it out like he's done all the other seasons. Like no other season, he isn't the one in control...or is he?

I'll go one better and say that this was my favorite season. I had no motivation to watch it and when I started I couldn't stop. I binged it in a day and a half.

It's nice to see Ray at least headed toward addressing his issues and Alan Alda will be a welcome addition in this upcoming season. One problem I had throughout the series' run was his impersonal relationship with Lena which is looking a lot brighter after the stunning

Anti-heroes' wives sometimes get a bum rap but I wonder how much Abby was a drag on the show even in her healthy days.

                                More Ray?

If the star says it it looks pretty solid. Plus the fan backlash has put front and center the fact that the series was not wrapped up properly which would hurt a valuable ShowTime property.
