Thanks for the suggestions. I just downloaded MSE and already had Malwarebytes so I'm going to run with this combo for awhile.

I use Kaspersky but it's not free. I love it. It does it's job. I usually just order a box of the older version around this time of year anyway to get a new keycode.

I don't know if I should continue paying for it or if I should just go with MSE now that I read all of your suggestions.

I use a combo of MSE and Malwarebytes.

Would recommend putting an adblocker on your browser, such as AdBlock Plus as well. Can't tell you how many people I've seen get viruses/malware from clicking on popups or ads.

On Windows 8, I just use Avast. It is set up differenlty. Never had a single problem.

On Windows 7, I use MSE and Malwarebytes. I have probably had one serious issue in 10 years, though, so as long as you are using one of the top antivirus programs and search for issues every once and awhile, you won't get anything.

Like was said above, also use adblock. You really have to go out of your way to crap on your computer these days it seems.

Malware Bytes and MSE for me. The other Virus software can be just as bad with software when they want you to upgrade to a better version of their product.

I also Use Comodo Firewall, that is working out..

I'm using Avast & it works really well. I was running MSE/Malware Bytes combo before.

Wanted to try something new & I'm happy with Avast. I also use Anti-Logger

It's supposed to.

I use AVG paid version, I had the free version years ago and decided to buy it. I wouldn't say its bloated, but I haven't used the free version in several years. The paid version doesn't use much resources and the only time I notice it is when it flags something.

I would vouch for MS SE as well. It's pretty good as far as free software is concerned. Malwarebytes/Spybot aren't real time as mentioned, they're more for after the fact.

I'd also say..even if you have a paid or free av/malware client, you still need to exercise caution/common sense. Remember, the definitions provided are what these companies are aware of, and its all after the fact, none of them are ahead of the curve.

on my Windows 8 machine, I just use the AV that comes built into the OS. Microsoft Security Essentials was basically put into Windows Defender for W8, so you don't actually need a third party AV software with W8. I also use Spybot and MalwareBytes, though MalwareBytes have never found anything in any scans so far, so it seem Windows Defender catches everything so far.
