Re: Breaking Bad: The Final 8 - (premieres 8/11/13)
Discussion featuring a spoiler from tonight's episode, so I'm putting the spoiler tag on:
SpoilerI'm trying to figure out where this goes that it ends up with Walt coming back to ABQ from New Hampshire almost a year later with an assault weapon in the trunk, no wedding ring, obviously off chemo (but still sick), and returning to his condemned home to retrieve the ricin when it's obvious his crimes are now well known (his neighbor's reaction).
I have no idea where they're gonna go with these next seven episodes....but I love it.Comment

Could not have asked for a better start to the season. Thought the episode was incredible.
SpoilerLoved the flash forward. The scene with Walt and Jesse was amazing. Lying has just got so easy for Walt. And of course, the ending was great and really sets up the rest of the season.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

What an episode. The last 5 minutes were so tense.SpoilerEverything in the series led to that moment. Surprised that they got it out in the open so early....
My prediction for what happens the rest of the season...

Re: Breaking Bad: The Final 8 - (premieres 8/11/13)
SpoilerThis could be, but I don't think Jesse would ever cooperate with Hank. Plus, how does that factor in Walt leaving, only to come back to purchase the M60 and get the ricin?Comment

I wonder if the New Hampshire thing is a cover or if he did the escape and identity change thing he attempted in season 4.Comment

Re: Breaking Bad: The Final 8 - (premieres 8/11/13)
Spoilered for length. This is strictly from the 8/11 episode and there are no spoilers beyond tonight...
SpoilerCertainly a lot to digest after that one.
The cold open... that was AMAZING! I imagine that takes place immediately after the cold open to s5e1 where he first gets the M60 in that Denny's parking lot after buying it from Lawson. We now know that Walt has pissed off the wrong people at some point between now and the finale and his house is condemned. He must have done something really nasty that people know about to have his long time neighbor react so negatively to his showing back up. What I don't understand though, is where the ricin comes into play. With a big, badass machine gun like that in his possession, it looks more like he is ready to go out in a blaze of glory so I don't know why he would need that ricin. There's a lot to think about just based on the cold open in and of itself. The biggest trip of all, though, was seeing Walt's house completely destroyed with "HEISENBERG" tagged on the wall. Crazy!
As for the episode itself, it was quite good as a prelude to the home stretch. Hank's obsession mixed with his bouts with anxiety are well done. This is that one case in his career where he just cannot let it go no matter what his superiors tell him.
I was expecting a little bit more out of Skyler's confrontation with Lydia. I am sure this won't be the last we hear from her, though. I am very interested in her backstory, as it seems like she just kind of popped up out of nowhere last year. If she was so integral to Gus' operation, why had we never heard of her until Gus was already dead? I'd love to see a cold open with Gus and Lydia in the form of a flashback explaining that relationship and how a woman so uptight and unstable ended up in a position of such power.
Add to my wishlist a flashback of how Gus and Mike came to know one another. Or how about one that actually explains who the hell Gus really was other than just "an important guy from Chile." Hell, give me anything more with Gus just because I miss that character so much. It's probably not going to happen, but a guy can dream!
Anyway, Badger and Skinny Pete's back and forth about Star Trek was hilariously awesome and was a nice touch in the middle of an extremely tense episode. I'm always happy to see those two pop on the screen.
Now, Jesse. Oh boy. Where do I begin? I understand that his character has grown a lot, morally speaking, over the last five seasons but seriously? He's the meth version of Robin Hood all of a sudden? I seriously don't get it. However, his scene in Saul's office where he sparks up a doobie was pretty awesome. It was nice to see my boy, Huell, actually get a speaking (and not just breathing) part again. Walt confronting Jesse and telling him everything he wanted to hear instead of the truth was pretty textbook. How long from now does Jesse get so reckless that Walt feels the need to do away with him? I imagine soon.
We also find out what we suspected during s5e8 after Walk visits the doctor's office: his cancer has returned. I don't know how impactful that will be in the grand scheme of things, but I'm sure Mr. Gilligan has a reason for it. Everything else about this show has been so planned out already, so there is no reason to doubt the genius at work.
Finally, we now know that Hank is 100% certain that Walt is Heisenberg. Really tense scene right there. If you really think about it, though, what can Hank really do about it? Not much if you ask me. Hank himself is already pretty liable for some things. His own rehab from his attack was paid for with Heisenberg money. Hell, he even took Walt himself on some stakeouts when he was investigating Gus back in season four. He is just way too close and would actually look pretty foolish with his own brother-in-law being the guy he was after all along. I'm very interested in what Hank's next step is, but I think Walt did strike a little bit of fear into him by having the balls to tell him to, "...tread lightly" right in his own house.
Either way, we're in for a hell of a ride over the course of the next seven weeks.Comment

SpoilerJesse could turn on Walt easily if he were to find out about Brock or Jane. The way Walt just lied to his face today made it seem like that was possible.Comment
