lol,we've had over 80 posts in this thread since the finale aired. Took 4 months to get this thread to that many posts at the start!

Agree with AV Club on so many things, but this sums it up pretty well for me:

"So we all had our ideas about what would best close out this show and say goodbye to the characters, finish their journeys. But really, for me, there’s only one thing that needs to happen to fulfill the show’s promise. Ted needs to be happy."

Nobody is arguing that Ted isn't happy. It's just that

they made his thoughts on the mother seem like it wasn't even that special,like she was just someone he settled for since he couldn't get Robin. Yes, this is probably the best ending possible for Ted character, but from viewers perspective, it just makes majority of what happened in this show seem like one big waste.

I think there's still plenty of twists to come. I'm still kind of expecting the mother to have passed away when it's all said and done.

That was said all the way back in September!

Also, remember that Robin still ends up traveling the world so maybe they do get divorced down the road.

Something strange to think of...Didn't Jason Segal propose that the mother die or something? Like it was one of his suggestions as to how he'd end it. Little did he know that was the plan from the very start.

the finale would have been so much more satisfying if they had stretched it out over an entire half season. I mean, there were so many filler episodes for them to rush the conclusion is poor time management. For each of the flashforwards they could have devoted an entire episode. This would have at least made the mother seem more important. I do t know about you guys, but I would have preferred an entire episode of Barney having a kid over Daphne yappig in the car. Way too much stuff happened in one hour.

I wasn't a huge fan of this show and haven't seen nearly all of the episodes, much less all of this season.

Having said that, I really enjoyed the finale. It's probably because I'm not huge into it and don't know all of the nuances but just the general happenings. Anyway, I would rank it up there with the Friends finale, which I loved and was a diehard fan of.

How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)

First of all, I want to say that I DVRed this episode. I watched WWE Raw, and their "post game" style show. I not once even entertained the idea of coming into this thread because I didn't want anything spoiled for me.

I will use a spoiler out of respect for anyone who comes in here and hasn't seen the finale yet, but I also want to say to that person, what are you doing? You're obviously most likely gonna get a spoiler.

I'll admit that I was a huge supporter of Ted and Robin. To the point where I thought up a big scheme where "Aunt Robin" was a different Robin than the one Ted fell in love with.

But after getting to meet the mother, I was nearly in tears when he talked about her getting sick. I knew that all of our fears were happening, she dies at the end.

She was absolutely perfect for Ted. Very sad to see her die in the end.

Now how are they going to do the whole How I Met Your Dad show? She's dead. Or will it be in Robin's perspective? EDIT: Just read about HIMYD not being a spinoff. It will be cancelled after one season.

^Irony of that is that I didn't watch Raw cause I watched HIMYM(and has full intentions of watching Raw after,but with how HIMYM ended,I didn't feel like it anymore...)

Just reading this thread makes me glad I gave up this show after the first few seasons.

It went downhill FAST and it looks like (save for a few blips towards the end) the finale would have made me hate everything (ever) about the show.
