I still don't get how the mother would be dead though. Cause there are times where the kids just didn't want to hear the story and wanted to leave(and the show started off with kids thinking they were being punished for being told that story about their mother), I can't imagine that happening if she was dead....

I'm still going with one of my theories that Ted imagined this whole thing. Like the kids(and the mother) are dead or something and Ted is just imagining getting the chance to tell them the story he always dreamed of telling them.

What is with the death thing? LOL. Seriously guys. The death of the kids or the mother would be the darkest sitcom ending in television history. Way darker than Seinfeld's or Eastbound and Down and I could see people being furious that such a light/happy show would flip it and go completely dark at the end. The only way I could see them pulling off the death thing is if they did a fast forward and showed the mom dying years after the kids are on the couch.


Also the creaters have been quoted that "Ted will be very happy at the end of the series". Cant see that happening if the kids or mom is dead. Dont get me wrong. I would love an ending like that because its different than the status quo but I cant see it happening. I could be wrong though.

I've been re-watching HIMYM on Netflix as a companion to this final season. I just started the 5th season. Over the past couple of seasons of the show there have been some duds of episodes for me, like the Slap one a couple weeks ago, but as I've re-watched them, through 4 full seasons I haven't seen a single bad one. I'm interested in seeing what season it was that I really started thinking the episodes started going downhill to me, I'm thinking it was probably around season 6. But so far, I've really enjoyed re-watching the show for the first time.

Season 5 is when it started getting more inconsistent. Season 7 is when I started to consider whether I should stop watching the show because there were more actively bad episodes than good.

Season 6 was when it started to decline IMO because that's when they started stalling things just to extend the life of the show. The whole Zooey storyline was pretty much pointless and just not that great.

I have noticed that when I go back to some of the past few seasons where I felt like the show has gone downhill, they don't seem as bad because I'm watching the episodes in bunches as opposed to one by one.

Outside of the scene with Ted's kung fu doppelganger, I didn't think the slap episode was all that bad. That scene was just uncomfortable and unfunny though.

I actually didn't mind 6th season that much,sure it was part of the decline,but not as much as 7 and 8 and 9 were/are.

The whole Robin-Kevin and Barney-Nora relationships were boring though. I actually liked the Ted-Zoey stuff.

That's when I started tuning out, even specifically the entire Ted/Zooey/Captain/Arcadian storyline. Doesn't help that I was never into the Barney/Robin thing and they've focused more on it the last few years too.

As it is for this season, I just check into this thread each week to see if the new episode is worth watching. Hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Best episode overall since season 1. Tons of inside jokes. Tons of questions answered and Milotti nailed the character.

An episode that is tragic and makes you tear up some but also makes you laugh your *** off at times makes the several terrible episodes this season go away. Brilliantly done by the writers.

They could have & should have stretched that out over 3 or 4 episodes and showed them in place of some of the **** they've shown this season.

I still can't believe they nailed the casting of the mother.

I remember when she was revealed at the end of last season that I wasn't 100% sure because she didn't match the idea I had built up in my head of what she would look like. She really couldn't be any more perfect though.

Also, and I really hope I don't end up eating my words here in a couple months, I have no doubt they're going to knock the finale episode out of the park. Because for as much as you can argue that the show has gone downhill, it's never fully lost "it" like most shows do when they "jump the shark" or whatever. For every bad episode or throwaway episode, there's been one like this that reminds you why you love the show so much and part of you is sad to know it's all coming to an end soon.

Like other people said...they really should've stretched out the mother stuff longer. I don't get why we had abunch of stupid fillers of the wedding when time this season could've/should've been spent on the mothers past.

1 episode was way too short. They could've recapped the 9 previous years of her life in 3 or so episodes(3 years per episode), not skip abunch of things and just sum it up in 20 mins.

Still....the way they connected abunch of the things from the mothers point of view to the actual show was funny. Funniest part is when she laughed at the shellfish joke in the class.

I definitely didn't cry or anything. Yeah. Definitely didn't.
