Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
I haven't watched in a couple weeks. Do I need to catch one of the newer ones?

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Wow.
At first I actually thought Ted getting emotional over "what mother misses their daughter's wedding?" meant something like Robin dying or Ted or The Mother's mother missing their wedding but then I realized Ted starts to cry and The Mother consoles him because there's a possibility she isn't around to see Penny's wedding, whenever that may be. This is also why The Mother tells Ted she doesn't want him to live in his stories and that life only goes forward.
The fact they're pulling this out now as opposed to keeping it a surprise at the end makes me think it's being done intentionally to acknowledge everyone that's been throwing out the dead mother theory, only for the twist at the end to be that she doesn't die. And honestly I hope that's the case because it really sucks if she does die. She's perfect for Ted and after everything he's been through on this journey to get to her, to take her away just like that seems so cold, especially for a show like this.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Remember though how in one episode in the past he said he'd give anything to have met her sooner just to have a couple more weeks with her? Gave off the impression that night she died.
Then again, maybe her mother died and couldn't attend the wedding.Twitter

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
I never thought of it at all like what anyone here is talking about. I just thought he was talking about the mothers mother being dead.
I still don't get how someone would be dead though. The kids didn't want to hear the story, so I really doubt that's how the show ends if that's their reaction to it.Comment

They very clearly foreshadowed it three times. I don't see how she's not dying.

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
But what about the mother interacting with the kids earlier in the series?
I don't know, that episode was pretty heavy. The "don't live in your stories" was more telling. Is she really just figment of his imagination at this point? Maybe the whole story is so long because Ted is living in his stories?
I don't know.Comment

Just watched the newest episode. I'm worried to see the way this ends.

Honestly, I'm thinking this was done in response to the theory of the mother being dead that's been out there for years and the final scene will be her coming into the room to join them as the surprise.Comment

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Spoilers regarding next few episodes(just the special characters appearing in it,what the episode preview says for it and stuff).
Also...they filmed the final episode yesterday!
Next week
Spoiler
Basically just the story about where Lily went after leaving a couple of episode before. The Captain and Lilys Dad are both in this episode.
Following week
SpoilerEpisode has to do with Blauman who may or may not be dead since he was in a story in a past episode where they said he died, but supposedly the story was made up or something by Barney. Based on the HIMYM wiki page, one of the characters appearing has a last name of "MacLaren", so that could explain the bar name, or maybe it's just a mistake by the website?
Final episode before finale
SpoilerSounds like the wedding will be done by this episode. Patrice returns in this episode.Comment

Originally posted by fpacThe theory in those comments about the final scene being Ted & the kids visiting the mother's grave and that being when we find out her name was pretty depressing.
Honestly, I'm thinking this was done in response to the theory of the mother being dead that's been out there for years and the final scene will be her coming into the room to join them as the surprise.
What I think is that they find out it's possible The Mother could have some kind of illness so they go away for the weekend back to the Farhampton Inn (which is the most significant location in their story having met and gotten engaged there) to take all of that off of their mind. They're trying to tell every untold story they have left to tell to each other because this could be some of their last few moments alone together. But when they come back home, the test results for whatever it is The Mother could have come back negative and she isn't going to die.
There is plenty of hard evidence now pointing towards the death theory, but there's also the fact that the kids have given annoyed reactions to Ted telling this story plenty of times. There's no way they're doing that if The Mother is dead or is going to die.
Also, there's another thing I just thought of. I'm pretty sure there's been a couple instances where Narrator Ted talks to the kids about The Mother in the present tense. I seem to remember a line like "Kids, to this day your mother's rendition of La Vie En Rose is still the most hauntingly beautiful....(the rest I can't remember)" and something about what she does for them during breakfast. That would seem to tell us that in 2030 she's still alive and kicking.
I just can't see the death theory panning out now. Maybe it's because we're falling in love with The Mother as much as Ted is going to and we can see how perfect they are together or maybe it's because I feel they've shown their hand too early on purpose, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'd probably applaud them for having the balls to pull something like this and it'd hit everyone like a ton of bricks, but I feel like there has to be some sort of a happy ending here.Last edited by BlueNGold; 03-04-2014, 01:19 PM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Plus I keep thinking back to the episode in season 1 when Ted joked about the stripper being the mother. Doesn't seem like something he'd joke about if she was dead.
Of course the ending may have been changed since then.Comment
