I haven't watched this show in 2 years…but, I don't see how the mother can be dead. I recall times where Ted would say to the kids "Kids, you can ask your mother about this…" implying she is still around.

I could see it being a scenario where the Mother is waiting for a test result (say cancer or something deadly) and they go to the Farhampton Inn to take their minds off it. They find out she's okay and story ends happily ever after.

Maybe I'm naive, but I honestly can't imagine the creators ending this in a super sad manner. I think that would disappoint so many viewers. Watching all these years I think everyone deserves the happier ending, you know?

Everyone dies. Ted finding his wife and having a family would be the happy moment.

Maybe everyone just moves away from Ted? Barney/Robin go to some other country, Marshall-Lily eventually do go to Italy or something(not anytime soon,but sometime before 2030) and Ted/Mother are only ones left in NY by time the story is being told.

Finished my re-watch of the first 8 seasons on Netflix. It was a lot of fun going back through all the episodes as the final season was on.

I just did this as well. Right now I'm at the 4th episode of this season.

That whole Daphne/Marshall thing was such a waste of time.

EDIT: BTW, near the end of the 2nd episode for this season, Ted is sitting at a table doing a word search and spells Vesuvius. Then he says "Wait, that doesn't fit". Take that for what it's worth in regards to last week's Vesuvius episode.

I never really put much emphasis on the mother being dead, but heard a few good points on here. I still think the more important thing to consider is if were going to get a pineapple explanation in the last few episodes?

Future Ted already said they never found out about the pineapple. So if Future Ted doesn't know, then nobody will ever know.

Future Ted already said they never found out about the pineapple. So if Future Ted doesn't know, then nobody will ever know.

The creators of the show did a Reddit AMA a few weeks ago saying they regret having future Ted saying they never found out about the pineapple and that they may have a "clever way around that"

I think it could be possible, like some part of the story just happens without future ted actually knowing about it.

Episode tomorrow actually sounds good. With 3 episodes until the finale,they all HAVE to be good! Final 5 episodes of the series, it needs to have huge build. Go all out in these episodes!
