    Time Warner Cable Drops Showtime

I heard some rumblings about this during the week, but when I flipped to Showtime a few minutes ago there was a message up saying they removed the channels while they continue to negotiate. I want to see Dexter this weekend and upcoming boxing events, so I'm hoping this gets resolved soon.

Some markets have lost CBS too, but that's still showing here at least for now. If this drags on a long time and I'm unable to watch football I'd be kind of upset. Does this type of thing usually last a long time?

The same thing happened with Laker games not being available on Directv. Time Warner was involved with that too. We couldn't watch games for a few weeks of the season. Time Warner seems hell bent on standing their ground on this stuff. You could be waiting a while.

CBS and Showtime were dropped in these markets:

New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, Tampa, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, San Diego, Columbus, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Milwaukee, San Antonio, Austin and Detroit.

That's 21% of their customers. (2.5 million out of 11.7 million)

And Louisville, at least CBS, not sure about Showtime.

here in L.A. they dropped Showtime, CBS and local channel KCAL, which is due to show 18 Dodger games the rest of the year.

if this goes beyond a couple of weeks, I'll just pick up a HD OTA antenna and watch Dexter through other means.

I'd have problems. I'm hooked on DVR.

I have those issues at the moment too, I work late so I have to DVR a lot of stuff, but I'm in the process of transitioning to using my PC as a TV tuner and DVR, its a bit pricey out of the box but I'm tired of paying 23 bucks a month for DVR service and rental and I should make that back in 3-6 months.

if you have a 360 you're already have way there as they make great Windows Media extenders.

Yeah, my 360 broke down a few months ago, but I'm waiting for the XBox One.

Will that PC transition extend to other TVs in your house?

yes as long as you have windows media extenders, like the 360 or the Ceton Echo, I'm also playing around with Plex Media Server so I can stream recorded shows to my PS3 and Roku.

I've researched the TV tuners for a couple of months and the tuner I'm going with is the HDHomerun Prime which has 3 tuners so I can record 3 shows at the same time.

once I get everything up and running I'll try to answer any questions that you may have, as this looks like the solution I've been looking for to cut down on set top box prices and DVR service, since like you I'm chained to my DVR

I'm glad you like them. U-Verse was a nightmare for me.

It's going to happen to every provider sooner rather than later. All the free broadcast channels want more money to make up for ads. Then you have the cable channels that keep trying to increase their fees a lot with each contract.

People and the providers are fed up with all increased costs and they finally are taking a stand. Either the channels are going to longer their costs or the market is going to be completely changed.

looks like this impasse is going to last a long time.

CBS Wins Thursday night, without Time Warner

I may have to look into a Leaf Antenna, come football season

Yeah, this really sucks. My CBS is still kicking which is good, but I'm hoping Showtime comes back soon. I don't think I wanna go through the trouble of trying to switch providers, I'm gonna wait it out. They gave us Starz and Encore in its place to hold us over where I'm at, but missing boxing and Dexter isn't sitting well with me right now.

Don't spend extra money on an "HD" antenna. A set of old school rabbit ears picks up and shows the same signal as any other antenna.

Which broadcast channels can you receive for free? It's time you cut the cord!

That will tell you how far away from the station signal you are. I live 35 miles from all the antennas in DFW and use rabbit ears with no problem.
