Alter Bridge - Fortress (October 8th)

Alter Bridge are back on October 8 with Fortress. It's the follow-up to 2010's earth-shattering AB III.

We can promise you this after more than a few listens...It's the biggest, best, and most brilliant beast of an album yet from Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips, and Brian Marshall. Everything fans love about this band shines through. The guitars sear and scorch with the right balance of technicality and soul, while the vocals reach heights only gods can claim. Meanwhile, this is still one of the tightest and toughest rhythm sections in the game. Fortress is the epic that hard rock and heavy metal fans have been yearning for…

That said, ARTISTdirect.com is very proud to team up with Alter Bridge to debut the very first single "Addicted to Pain". The song rolls from a mind-numbing groove into a powerful refrain from Kennedy before crashing and burning into a signature Tremonti solo.

Fortress is everything that a hard rock classic should be—and more.

I liked it but it didn't have nearly the effect as the first time I heard Isolation and WDTTW. One thing about this band you can count on: quality tunes. I love these guys.

I was hoping this band would take a five or six year break and come back with like... nine songs that are on the epic level of Words Darker Than Their Wings. It's not my favorite song of theirs, but it is so well made that it really is put on that level of epicness.

Either way, I'm in right when it comes out. They are definitely a quality rock band.

You should check out their two Blu-rays (Amsterdam & Wembley) if you haven't yet.

I have the Amsterdam DVD/CD combo. Blackbird is an amazing live performance. I haven't gotten around to seeing the Wembley show yet.

I've been waiting for this album for a while. Easily my favorite band going.

For you guys that are AB fans, if you haven't checked out Tremonti's solo album "All I Was", give it a listen. It was my favorite album from last year. Just as good as AB IMO, and Tremonti unleashes guitar hell on a few tracks. The guy is such a mindblowingly good guitarist, and as it turns out, he's a pretty good vocalist as well.

I've always considered Tremonti the most underrated guitarist in the genre these days. Seems the Creed stigma keeps him from becoming mainstream.

The Amsterdam concert that comes on Palladia a lot is a great watch.

For sure. The guy absolutely SHREDS, but I don't hear his name in best guitarist conversations as often as he deserves.

Tremonti is fantastic. I've seen them twice now that they have come here to Chicago and I encourage to check out his solo album. My buddy is such a huge fan that he is flying out to Orlando for their only US date this year. Also, an opening band for Tremonti and they have opened for Creed that you guys should check out is Man The Mighty.

The coolest thing about Tremonti is that he never took guitar lessons. He taught himself how to play and his unique combinations shine through practically every song he records. His playing combined with Kennedy's vocals may be the most perfect pairing in recent rock history.

This is great news. Tremonti is the man and seems super down to earth. He has a lot of the same guitar influences that I do, although I'm nowhere near his level.

Here is the tracklist, as shown in the link (EDIT: actually going to use what's from Wikipedia since it has the track running times).

                      1. "Cry of Achilles" 6:30
                      2. "Addicted to Pain" 4:16
                      3. "Bleed It Dry" 4:44
                      4. "Lover" 5:17
                      5. "The Uninvited" 4:47
                      6. "Peace Is Broken" 4:40
                      7. "Calm the Fire" 6:04
                      8. "Waters Rising" 5:39
                      9. "Farther than the Sun" 4:07
                      10. "Cry a River" 4:00
                      11. "All Ends Well" 5:12
                      12. "Fortress" 7:36

No song is less than four minutes, and the entire album is over an hour long. Damn, I like that! I'm hoping Best Buy gets a deluxe edition with a few bonus tracks like the last two releases!

This is one fantastic album Blzer, I've been listening to it for the last 2 weeks. I wonder how good Outright is. There's 12 songs on the album, so cool to see a bonus track out there.
