Re: Arrow (Season 2)
That's what I was afraid of after that scene, so I hope not. It's just my opinion, but Katie Cassidy reeked of bad soap opera acting during her season 2 scenes and struggles. Looking through her imdb profile, the only two things I've seen her in are Taken and Click and I don't remember her in either of them. So I don't know if it is the show or her ability that is off-putting to me. Season 2 of Arrow was amazing to me, just her part was dreadful.

Re: Arrow (Season 2)
Hah the joke was on me, for some reason I though Flash actually appeared in Arrow Season 2, I must have just misunderstood the twitter post I saw about it randomly awhile ago. I kept waiting for Flash to show up and help Arrow at the end of the season, felt pretty dumb. Looking forward to that show quite a bit.
Man, it's funny. When I first heard about this show I was like "that is going to be dumb as hell." I literally only watched a single episode because I couldn't sleep a week ago and it just kept getting recommended on Netflix so I said, what the hell. Obviously I liked it so much that I had to burn through the entire first two seasons as fast as I could.
One downfall to this is I have missed all the discussion and fanfare that comes with liking a show a like this, I will probably go through this thread and the season one thread, if there is one, and see what already has been discussed. I am sure a number of questions and comments I have are already covered somewhere. For example, I am a comic book fan but I never got into Green Arrow. Is the whole Felicity/Oliver weird sexual tension thing a running theme from the comics or is that just for the show?
The show just works, man. Is it perfect? Nah, is it chalk full of Triple A Plus actors/actresses who give the most believable performances ever? Nah, but this isn't Breaking Bad. I really think they do the whole "Part LOST style mystery, part soap opera formula, part superhero action" really well. I am sure a lot of people here have already talked about how great the show is, so there isn't much for me to add. If I had to rate it, I would give it around an 8.9 out of 10. Just good entertainment all around. If I had to list my main issues, they would probably just be:
SpoilerA.) Some of the acting performances are really pretty bad/corny. Now, like I said, I know this isn't Breaking Bad/House of Cards/Mad Men status and it's not really about giving Emmy Award Winning performances, and maybe my issue was magnified by just being exposed to the entirety of the shows content in a weeks span, but regardless, sometimes I couldn't help but cringe. I don't know the actors actresses names so I will refer to their character, but I am only criticizing the performances, not the characters. I like what the writers are doing with the characters, I dug how Vertigo's "power" was through drugs and I thought Brother Blood was pretty cool, etc etc. No issues with there. Acting wise, I gotta say, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy I believe? may be a bonafide smokeshow dimepiece (not trying to be uber geek here, but man, she is easy to look at) but she annoys me quite a bit. She isn't the worst on the show, not at all, but for a main player I feel she definitely could try showing more range. I don't think she is bad, just average. Who I do think is bad, and I just realized I mostly have issues with actresses on the show, I think the male performers do pretty good jobs all around, but anyway, I think Sara Lance is pretty bad. I was glad to see her go. I thought she was just corny and weak all around as an actress. I dig the character, no issue there, just talking about the acting. Huntress and Amanda Waller are probably my two least favorite, I think they both are next level awful. Talk about cardboard acting. Maybe the way the characters are written limit what the actresses can do, but, damn, both of these ladies make me cringe when they deliver their lines sometimes. I think Thea is pretty good. Oliver/Moira/Diggle/Felicity/Det Lance/Malcolm Merlyn all do good jobs IMO. Roy Harper/Tommy Merlyn are decent at best, imo. Deadshot is pretty bad, a little too corny. Everytime he has a line I feel like he talks like he is looking in a mirror rehearsing before a play or something. Nyssa Al Ghul does a good job, I enjoyed her performances. Slade Wilsons actor might have my award for best performance on the show, liked him quite a bit. I cant think of the name, but the chick he uses to take over the company (Lila? Lily) I dunno, you know who I mean, she might be a dimepiece herself but I feel she is a pretty weak actress as well. Anyway, I could go on and on. No big deal just sharing all my thoughts as a guy who just was introduced to the show and likes it a lot, so of course I am gonna have opinions, ya know.
B.) This is something they even joked about on the show (season 2, Felicity looks at Dig and says "I am losing track of who knows whos secret identity"), but yeah, I don't like how so many people know so many others secret. It makes even more "unrealistic," for lack of a better word (I realize we are talking about a super hero soap opera so realism isn't a priority) that Det Lance was basically the last one to find out about Oliver (well, I guess except Thea?) when at that point, everyone else knew, he knew about Sara/Canary, and still didn't make the connection. Maybe it is easier for the show to flow with people knowing the secrets and having to write in less cover up scenes or whatever, but this is just a little minor pet peeve of mine from all comic books. Its just more interesting to me when its more of a secret and that secret plays more of a role in the story, that kind of stuff. No big deal or anything.
I am really curious to see where the show goes in Season 3. I can imagine Thea Queen becomes some sort of "bad guy" player under Merlyns tutelage? I am sure the League of Assassins makes it's presence felt a few more times. I hope to see Roy Harpers character evolve and hopefully the dude who plays him gets a little bit deeper as well.
Anyway. Great show. I am officially hooked, can't wait for S3. Add me to the fan club fellas"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

SpoilerI was disappointed by this as well. I figured between her talking about "self defense classes" and already throwing a couple punches here and there, then her getting the jacket, I figured she would go under Arrows wing since she now knows who he is anyway. I don't like this, to be honest, but I will just get used to it I guess"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Arrow (Season 2)
Just got thru Seasons 1-2 over the past 3 weeks. It has not failed.
Comparing it to Smallville (and I'm a huge Superman nerd), I just love how Arrow unabashedly embraces it's comic book roots. Costumes? **** yeah. Superhero names that matches the source or ties to it? No Red Blue Blur here! Universe building? I got your heroes and villains popping up left and right. It makes me wonder what Smallville would've been like if they created it like Arrow/Flash.
Season 2, Episode 20 (Seeing Red) is the highlight episode for me thus far. I got chills at the end.
Love this show. I'm in the process of looking for my local salmon ladder cause that's the real MVP of Arrow.Last edited by Leon; 07-21-2014, 04:59 AM.Comment

I guess I don't remember him being called Speedy in the show, just Thea being called that.
