Laptop issues - any tech guys out there?

So, let me preface this by saying that I can be a complete moron when it comes to certain things. Computer hardware is certainly one of those aforementioned things. Anyway...

A couple of days ago, I was putting the finishing touches on some paperwork on my laptop and the keys were feeling pretty grungy so I decided to clean the keyboard. I used a paper towel with an extremely small amount of warm water on it and wiped it clean. I've done it this way plenty of times before and had no issues in the past.

Anyway, I waited an hour or so and turned it back on and when I got to the windows home screen to type in my password, half of the keys on my keyboard wouldn't work, including the ones required for my password. I tried to restart several times to no avail. The keys just wouldn't work.

I googled something about using canned air to get moisture out of a laptop. I happen to have an air compressor in my garage so I went out there and set it on low (about the same psi as canned air) and hit the laptop with canned air everywhere where there was a vent hole, underneath the keys, etc.

I went back in, popped the battery back on and went to fire it up and now all I'm getting is the recovery screen. I cannot access windows at all. When I X out of the recovery screen, my only options are to either Shutdown or Restart. Now, I don't want to lose any of my data on there, so doing a full recovery is NOT ideal for me. It's been two days and I've tried to boot it up 40-50 times and it goes straight to the recovery screen and I cannot access windows at all.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The laptop is a Samsung RV511 if that means anything.

Don't know what to do to address your issue, but as far as recovering your data, you could get what I have: a SATA-to-USB adapter. It basically makes your HDD like an external, so you can access your info on another computer or something.

If you can remove the HDD easily, I'd say this is your safest bet before you try anything else ridiculous.

      Thank you!

Any links and/or step by step instructions on how to do that?

      I suck with hardware issues.

Sorry, it might be called USB 2.0 to IDE.

I'm looking at my box right now. I got it from Fry's, and although I can't find the exact product there online, this is what mine looks like:

I got it for $19.99. That's the exact same model, and I can say with certainty that it works. Unfortunately, it's out of stock there. Just search that model and I'm sure you'll find one somewhere.

As far as removing your hard drive, if you have a PC like mine, it should be pretty easy. Some aren't that easy (HP is easier than Dell, for example), but you would simply have to turn off your computer, unplug it, remove the battery, ground it, then unscrew the bottom cover and unscrew the hard drive. As long as you properly disconnect the drive from its connectors, you now are ready to connect it to this other product and plug it into another computer like an external hard drive.

Maybe I can film instructions for you or something, but all laptops will be different for that first step of actually removing the hard drive.

Doesn't look like he shows you how to remove it from your laptop, though. Like I said, that will differ laptop to laptop.

I'm pretty sure I can at least get THAT part right.

Also, something like a keyboard is probably better cleaned with 70% Isopropyl alcohol vs. water, since it's a drying and cleaning agent. (Not for screens though).
