Wow Regular TV Sucks!!

So the other day I put my DirectTV on suspension because I need to save money for a wedding and relocation at the end of this year (their goes my next-gen console.) Bought an HD antenna and I go to browse the national/local TV stations and man I gotta say what I seen was pure garbage!

Nothing but bad talk shows, court shows, and games shows. I nearly lost it when I ran across this show called The Test, I never heard of it before so I watch a little bit of it and from what I can tell they strait up hi-jacked Maury's show!! At that point I just turned the TV off, had me thinking about resuming my Direct TV service but im going to hold off.

For all the times I said that cable/satellite TV is not worth it, I take that back, it's definitely worth it compared to regular old TV. Thank god for GTA V, and the ESPN App on Xbox Live, it's not Live but it's pretty good for a free stand-a-lone ESPN service. Plus I don't watch much TV anyway maybe a 3 hours a week.

Does anybody have any recommendation on any national televised shows including any on PBS?

I already have NetFlix streaming service but Hulu only streams shows that come on national TV right no cable stations/shows? I never watched national TV when I had cable, not even the local news. Im a big documentary/informative show viewer House Hunters, Alaska State Troopers, Taboo, Locked Up Abroad, and yes Love and HipHop Atlanta! I gotta get my laugh-ny-e on sometimes.

I think I'm covered, I notice a lot of my favorite channels, NatGeo, VH1, HGTV, have a lot of my favorite shows available to stream on their website! I just miss the randomness of cable, just flipping through channels and discovering something interesting. Going to have to get use to this though!

And you say you don't watch national TV, so you don't watch NFL?

I use an HD antenna and I just watch the major network shows (NBC/ABC/Fox). I get Notre Dame football 90% of the time and overall I'm happy. A one time $30 fee and now I don't pay a cable bill. Works for me but keep in mind I rarely watch TV anyways.

This is why I stick to movies and my massive collection of old sports broadcasts. I will watch some documentaries and such on TV though. There's a public affairs show on TVO (Ontario version of PBS) that I watch almost nightly as well.

Other than that and following Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a couple new shows this fall. I've very little reason to watch TV other than sports.

Downton Abbey is the only PBS show I've ever watched. My wife and I both liked it a lot.

TV in general suck. Cable included.

I agree for the most part, however I actually like TV series' waaaaayyyyy more than movies. I just can't get invested in a movie like I can a TV show. With a series you watch characters for 6-7 years sometimes, then when one of the main ones die it's almost like a relative dying or something. I just don't get that with movies.

I could survive with all sports channels, regular channels (for sports), USA, FX, and HBO.

Wish I could just pay for a package like that.

I only turn my satellite on for shows coming on those channels.

Can't get into shows like those anymore, unless it's old school from the 90's. I like AMC, HBO type shows, and Of course I watch the NFL on national TV. Loving the ESPN app on Xbox Live too!

Question about Playon, do you need a subscription from a cable provider to watch ESPN and HBO?

I believe so, but I think HBOGO is independent and I believe PlayOn has a plug-in built-in for that. They've also recently added Aereo, which apparently allows for local networks for a low monthly fee.

Antenna tv is like stepping back in the past. When your floor model tv had plyers to change channels cause the knob broke off and got lost with a wire hanger as an antenna. I haven't had cable in years(besides xfinity online from a fams account) and they might as well just gave us a Strat-O-Matic game included with an antenna cause thats the type of nostalgic feeling you get watching it. Straight garbage.

Since it's been mentioned a couple times. There is no such thing as an HD Antenna. Meaning you don't need some special antenna to get HD channels. Most (if not all) modern HDTVs have a tuner built in so you don't need that converter box anymore either. A set of 20 year old year old rabbit ears gets the same signal as what is claimed as an "HD" antenna.

You can look there to see where your local channel's broadcast towers are located. I live 32 miles from the Dallas TV stations' antenna farm. I pick up every major channel with a set of the most basic rabbit ears. It will recommend what type of antenna to get. You might need something if you are really far away or in ****ty reception area, but you don't need to pay extra for an HD signal.
