    Gotham

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the biggest drama deals this season, after a bidding war, Fox has landed Gotham, from Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller, with a series commitment. For Gotham, Warner Bros TV is mining one of DC Comics' most popular character universes, Batman.

New series coming to Fox following the early years of Jim Gordon.

I'll give it a try but do not have high hopes for it, 2 problems IMO,

        1) Its a Batman character but no Batman...think it may turn some people off

        2) It's on Fox and they cancel quick...which may also turn people off for fear of putting time into it but know how Fox cancels relatively good shows.

I think it could be a sleeper show if done right. This could be a gritty cop show with Gordon at the center of it with Batman rogues at their embryonic stage. I know in the '90s DC did a comic book series called GCPD which focused only on the police and personnel at GCPD and while it was never a big seller it had its fans. That's the kind of level of success I forsee for this show.

I don't like this idea, already starting to be too many comic book universe shows. This, Arrow, Shield, The Flash coming next year, and always rumblings each year of a Wonder Woman type of show coming. It's a neat idea, but at this point just try it with a hero or something that's been neglected.

I like this idea more than simply exploring underused heroes. I'm kind of over the big tent pole-comic book industry as the majority of them have morphed into profit-driven popcorn franchises. Exploring and building the actual universe via side characters and units rather dropping multiple heroes into the same show/movie sounds more interesting to me.

With that said I have no faith in FOX to execute this properly.

Fox doesn't cancel quickly though. Fox gave Fringe and Arrested Development more seasons than the ratings deserved, gave Joss Whedon's Dollhouse a second season despite terrible ratings, etc. On the flip side, yes, there are shows they've given a quick axe to, but it's no more quickly than any other network. Except maybe NBC, but their ratings have been so terrible in recent seasons that they know they'd likely be replacing a low-rated show with another one.

Here's hoping. I almost never get in to new network TV shows but I'm 100% in on this.

I wonder who they're going to cast for Gordon?

"The rise of Batman villains" could be interesting, if they do it right. Is the Joker available?

This sounds very solid, the Batman canon has a lot of stuff already about the pre-costumed Batman so there's a lot of stuff to be mined from that. As long as they keep it from being too teen soapy like Smallville.
