I really enjoyed this film, and I'm an X-Men fan too so it was in my wheelhouse. BUT, I don't think it was as exciting as Avengers or Captain America: Winter Soldier. The action/plot was good but the dialogue was weak at times. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's not the best superhero movie ever made IMO (as some had stated here).


It was a clever adaptation from the comic story, but the real cleverness came from Fox being able to use this film as a big retcon to reboot their X-Men franchise.


I give it *** 1/2 stars out of 5*.

Just my two cents to throw in. Also, I don't know how to place the 'spoilers' logo/tab thing so just be warned…Spoilers Ahead! I was a bit disappointed leaving the movie. I wanted to see an epic X-Men/Sentinel Battle Royal, but it never happened. Sure, we got to see them fight in a few scenes. Very quick, and very one sided. That let me down a bit. On the plus side, seeing the advance shots of Quicksilver, I was expecting a near Jar Jar Binks type performance. Boy, I was wrong. That kid stole the show in my opinion. Had the best scene in the flick. Not bad, a base hit. Was expecting at least a double.

Umm the whole point of the movie was that the sentinels were TOO strong

Yeah a big battle royal would have made little sense due to how incredibly strong the sentinels were, not to mention the huge number of them. One sided fight against the Sentinels only made the story so much better as it presented an all or nothing situation.

The thing was that was the (future) X-Men at their best and it still wasnt good enough against those Sentinels. They still got stomped out

There was one twist I just thought was completely unecessary.

Mystique being Stryker. It would've fit perfectly had he taken him to the facility...and given him a reason to regain his claws

Definitely left the impression that it was Logan (and the past X-men) or bust. They had no chance against the Sentinels.

Saw the movie earlier and like most loved it, was a damn good move with so many Wow moments. Put it up there with Avengers and TDK...going to have them all in my Blue-ray library.

comments and a couple questions

Magneto was such a bad ***, always liked him. Loved when Eric and Charles were talking on the plane and Charles told Erik he got into Ravens head, Erik replied that's not my power Charles, that's your's, she made her own choices. So simple and hit hard...loved that.

Glad they brought back Jean and Cyclops and erased a lot of what happened in that other X-men movie. Halle Berry for some reason still bugs me as Storm ...question though as I can't remember...how did Xavier get his body back? I remember him being killed and then his mind when into that guy in the hospital...was wondering about that.

Also on the ending scene, know it's supposed to be Apocalypse and that was The Four Horsemen on Apocalypse...but wasn't Gambit one of the Horsemen? Or was there 4 Horsemen before Gambit?...i'm not very knowledgeable on it an from a story I read I thought it started with Gambit in it.

Just seeing this and figured I'd give you an answer since no one else did.

There were Horsemen before Gambit was briefly Death. The original Horsemen Apocalypse created somewhere around the 13th, 14th century I think. The first modern day incarnation that he made was the group that featured Angel as Death along with one of the Morlocks, Plague as Pestilence. The second incarnation of the Horsemen he had Wolverine abducted to be Death. Gambit became Death in the third incarnation of the Horsemen after the House of M and M-Day events. There was a final incarntion after that, but yeah, Gambit wasn't an original Horsemen or a very long term member.
