iPhone 5S or Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hey guys -

I currently have a phone upgrade awaiting me and am undecided on which phone to get. I have been an owner of an iPhone 4S and an iPhone5. I really enjoy the iPhones, but have been a longtime owner of Samsung TV's and other Samsung products and have been extremely happy with them.

My main uses of a phone are obviously for phone calls and texting, as well as email for work and personal use, watching videos, and checking the internet (watching sports, check OS, etc.)

If any of you have either one of these phones, please give me some pros and cons. If you don't have either phone but have some pros and cons, those are welcomed as well.

I'd make sure to try and get your hands on both of them and see which one you like carrying around in your pocket more. I've avoided the Note just because I don't want a tablet in my pocket. Why aren't you considering the Galaxy S4?

I had the iPhone 5s and didn't like it. The screen is way to small and the screen resolution is low compared to other phones, especially the Note 3.

I ended up returning it and getting the Droid Maxx. I really like it, I've always liked the Moto Droid phones, but the one thing about it is its like a brick in my pocket because of the battery. But I get almost 2 days of use from a full charge. But still kinda wish I got the Ultra. I'm actually trying to trade for it with someone on craigslist right now lol.

But if you really like the Samsung phones then at least check out the GS 4. Unless of course your mind is made up and you don't mind the huge screen.

I personally can't stand anything Samsung. Every single Samsung product I have ever owned I've had nothing but trouble with. But that's probably not typical.

You know I was considering the Galaxy S4 as well, just got kind of blown away by the screen on the Note. I sometimes have to do things for work with documents and such and saw that you can have to screens open at the same time, which was a plus to me. I guess I should try fitting the Note in my pants pocket, lol

Thanks for the input! Personally, I've never had any issues with Samsung or Apple, that's why I've stuck with Apple for phones and computers and Samsung for tv's. However, I was interested in making the move to Samsung for a phone due to the S4 and Note 3. Just not sure which route I want to take. I will check out that Droid thought just to keep options open!

Like SuperBowlNachos said, get your hands on em before making a purchase. The Note 3 is big for a phone these days but I personally haven't had any issues carrying it in my pockets. Handling it does take some getting used to though.

I came from the 4s myself. I wasn't really a fan of the iPhone so I was pretty excited for a change. I'm happy with the Note 3, plenty of space with room to expand without getting a new phone or picking and choosing what I want to be on the device at any given time. There is of course, plenty of screen real estate as well so if you're planning on reading and watching videos a lot with your phone, that should be a plus.

I think the moto Droids are an acquired taste. I had a Galaxy Nexus and couldn't get a signal where I lived and I lived in Akron so there was no reason I shouldn't have gotten a signal. So Verizon ended up offering a Droid Razr Maxx to replace it and I loved it. Got 4 bars of 4G consistently. I love the Kevlar backing and gorilla glass. I never had to use a case and don't with my Maxx either because they are so durable.

My dad has an S4 and he already dropped it and cracked the screen. Luckily he had insurance on it. I dropped my Razr probably 5 times and ended up with only a slight mark on one corner.

Please don't think I'm trying to sway you. Just giving you some insight.

No no I really appreciate your input. I'm always open to new suggestions and trying new products. Never know what you may stumble across. I'm going to mess with the Maxx when I go to Verizon

What's it like making phone calls from? That's my only concern. Everything else seems amazing.

You'll be shocked at the things you can do with the note coming from an iphone.
Plus that leather backing is so nice on the phone. As far as making calls, it might be a weird at first but honestly you'll get used to it after a couple of days.

The Note 3 is really awesome, I have one through work as my company phone, and have an iPhone 5 as my personal phone. I do however have a couple things on the iPhone side, my iPhone is smoother, doesn't crash and has been super reliable, can't quite say that about my note. The note though very rarely has issues and i'm getting really spoiled by the bigger screen.

I still would side with an iPhone for phone use over the Note because the note is so big, but am warming up more and more to the Note and really want a bigger iPhone.

I'm in the same boat, I got a iPhone 4 and have a upgrade available. I really want a Note 3 but I can't find any deals on it and 300 bucks is a little steep....

The Verizon Edge deal is actually pretty legit for someone who doesn't want to pay the price of the upgrade! Just realized you're AT&T. I'm sure they have the same type deal

If anyone is wondering, I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and absolutely love it. I'd recommend it to anyone!
