If you have a plasma and IR is stubborn on your screen, for non-HD content I recommend 16:9 (filling out the screen even though everything gets stretched).

Otherwise, 4:3 for non-HD content. For HD content, use a screen-fit option or 16:9 for the correct aspect ratio. It will fill your screen appropriately. 4:3 will automatically give you black/gray bars and stretch everything vertically.

Make sure you are on the HD channel too. My HD channels are all in the 1000s. So for example if your Fox is channel 4 then the actual HD feed might be 1004. The cable I had before that my Fox 4 HD channel was 126 (it made no sense).

It sounds like you have the SD feed and are stretching it out to be 16:9 so it looks crappy and stretched out. The HD feed will automatically be 16:9 and fill the screen.

If you aren't using an HDMI cable from the box to the TV then you likely aren't getting HD at all.
You can get an HDMI cable for cheap here - http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2 This is where everyone on OS will tell you to get it from, but you can also get one on Amazon or WalMart. There is no difference between this $3.50 cable and a $40 Monster brand.

Do you have your console hooked up with HD cables? Might wanna pick up two of them.

Thanks for the info. I have LCD by the way. Another thing, which one is better HDMI or cable? Does one give me better picture than the other? I want to save an HDMI slot for video gaming but is not sure.

                  HDMI.

You can always get an HDMI selector if you're short on inputs, by the way.

Any HDMI cable other than this one is unacceptable.

If you aren't using this cable you might as well not even bother.

55 is just messing with you. A Monster cable will do just fine, just make sure it is a platinum series.

Don't overspend on HDMI cables, especially if it is a short run (less than 40-50m). IIRC, HDMI 1.4 cables support 3d and the audio return channel. So if you need 1 or both of those features pay a LITTLE extra ($8-15). Otherwise, your basic $3-5 HDMI cables from monoprice or amazon should do just fine.

As long as it's not broken, the HDMI cable isn't ( shouldn't ) be a factor in affecting your picture quality.

Not a fan of the stretched out look. Just like in a vid game. People were trying to play NFL 2K5 and contending it was in Hi-Def on 16:9, but it wasn't coded/rendered that way.
