I have a question for any other fellow AstronomyI just got into astronomy seriously. And bought me a real nice telescope. (Celestron 8se) After messing around the first week I think i'm I getting somewhere, It's been fun. I live in north Arizona And there a bright light out of the East for the last few days. For 45 minutes before fully dark it is the brightest think in the sky. My first thought is was a planet but isn't not or a really bright star. the star Aldebaran is the same place as my mystery. But while the universe moves in up and slightly right movement. the bright point source moves downward moving north to south.

My question is the light a man made object like a satellite, ISS or some its we have sent up there.Detroit Red Wings Fan Since 95' - 12 Division Champs, 6 Presdents' Trophy, 4 Stanley Cup Champs

Re: I have a question for any other fellow Astronomy

My orientation was wrong and it was Venus. I thought the place were I had my telescope setup on the balcony of the house where I was staying for Christmas was facing east. Trying to figure out what the light source I realized I was facing west. I couldn't believe how bad of a rookie move that was. oh well, got to start learning somewhere. On a side note I got to see the the moon of JupiterDetroit Red Wings Fan Since 95' - 12 Division Champs, 6 Presdents' Trophy, 4 Stanley Cup Champs

I figured it was a planet...either Jupiter or Venus(perhaps Mars)....My orientation was wrong and it was Venus. All are actually visible with the naked eye and look quite bright.

 Thanks for getting back!

....and trial and error is actually a good way to get good perception on orientation and viewing.

 Good luck and have fun!

Re: I have a question for any other fellow Astronomy

I always get my wife and daughter with Venus at dusk. I'll be like omg what is that? Must be a UFO. Some nights its an amazing thing to see.

I'm also very jealous of anyone who has gotten to see a non light obstructed view of a clear sky. I dream of seeing the the Milky Way with my naked eye.

And I second Google Sky Map. Its pretty awesome.Comment

Re: I have a question for any other fellow Astronomy

I have family out in the country and the view was nice but the best I ever saw was in the middle of the ocean when our boat runs darken ship. It truly is amazing. One of the guys has one of those bright laser pointers that can be seen in the sky and we have astronomy lessons every now and then.

Im not sure how one could get in the middle of the ocean running darken ship but maybe take a cruise? Ive never been on a cruise so I dont know how bright it is at night. I have a pretty nice camera so next time Ill see if I can take a few pics.MLB: Texas Rangers
