    Re: Amazon Pilots

Started to re-watch The Boys. A few non-descript observations from the first 2 episodes:

I think this show needs its own thread next season.

Check this link, the creator of the show did an AMA on Reddit and answered a lot of questions.

        On your Translucent question specifically...

Loved The Boys can't wait for season 2, all the characters were very well played and Elisabeth Shue is still sexy as hell, have always liked her. On the Plane didn't Homelander say that even if he could hold the plane up it would break apart anyway?

From what I gathered he is strong enough to hold it up but he needs something to push against (ie the ground). Whatever gives him the ability to fly doesn't work when pushing something in the air because he doesn't have a counter force. Basic physics I guess. Flying into it full speed would just result in him going right through it like a bullet. At least that's what I got from it. I could be wrong.

It was him being psychotic, not physics.

Question for people who have watched "The Boys":

I have heard that some of the scenes can be pretty graphic, but how graphic are they in comparison to Game of Thrones?

Was going to suggest this to the wife to be our next show to watch but just wanted to see how graphic it compares to other shows out there.

I would say watch the first 10 minutes and that will tell you if the Boys is for you.

It’s pretty much same level graphic as GoT. There’s definitely cringe moments and the nudity is not much, it’s actually mostly male nudity.

Ok. If it's on par with GoT, then that will work for us. Thanks, appreciate the response.

Watch the Red Band trailer, should have enough for you to understand the level of violence and gore.

I’m not a fan of gore, but besides two deaths early on it’s not that bad.

I guess considering this thread as the "What's good on Amazon" thread.

Came across the comedy stand-up special, "Chris Porter: A Man From Kansas" ..... some real good **** here!

                              Re: Amazon Pilots

After just reading the book The Man in the High Castle, I'm tempted to give the TV show yet another shot to entertain me. I see that the next season premiers in mid-November. At the same time, it seems that the most recent season has been almost universally panned everywhere I've looked, so I'm not sure if it's worth the time.

My initial feelings about the show do make a lot more sense now after reading the book. (1) There's a lot of internal monologue that doesn't necessarily translate well to TV; (2) the Juliana character is just as annoying in the book as she is in the show, so kudos to the actress because she may have actually nailed the part. I don't want to be the guy that goes on and on comparing books to shows, but in the book there is no sister that gets killed early on and no mention of any illicit movies. No mention of New York City at all--pretty much everything takes place in either Canon City or San Francisco. Juliana and Mr. Tagomi never meet etc. The show seems to be based as loosely as possible on the book probably because of reason (1) above.

For anyone that's watched the show and might be interested in reading the book--I enjoyed the book even having yet to enjoy the show. Despite very little action, Phillip K. Dick has an intriguing writing style and I really found the way he describes things (objects/feelings) to be quite unique and astute. It's a pretty quick read at under 300 pages and with a font that's not all that condensed either.
