Re: Amazon Pilots
It is too bad. I'd like to have another series that I could binge on. But there is just no way I could ever buy Jim Halpert in any sort of non-typecast role. I would be hoping for Dwight Schrute to appear on screen and for someone's stapler to end up in Jello the entire time.
Appreciate the Sneaky Pete comment. As for Goliath, I couldn't get into a show knowing that people think season 2 totally sucked. Would just kinda be waiting for it to end, you know?
For the record, I'm more neutral on Billy Bob (he didn't kick my dog or anything) but I just don't really get why he's a famous actor. Just a guy for me.
I don't really buy that Hitler would've allowed the alliance with Japan to carry on given (1) their alliance serves no purpose with the major Allied powers defeated and (2) the Nazi view on non-Aryan peoples and the Third Reich's penchant for betraying all of its allies. Another thing that really turned me off on this show--as a history buff--is you're kinda hoping for some sort of explanation for how WWII went in the total wrong and ahistorical direction and you don't get one at all. All of a sudden, it's 1962 and you're plopped down into an underwhelming spy/Juliana Crane story for the first few episodes instead. Maybe the show gets better later, but I couldn't make it that far.I doubt that a good initial strategy would be to destroy each other. The Nazis probably like their disproportionate "split" (see map) but guess who really wantsanyway?Spoilerit all

By the way, I like the show but it's not perfect.
Don't know what "too Gilmore Girls means" (never saw the show). I think the dialogue is brilliant and I loved the way they closed season two with a strong final three episodes but I didn't like thewith Midge's (Brosnahan) mother Rose going through whatever she was going through and then apparently over it. Zachary Levi (Chuck, Shazam!) was a somewhat necessary device as Midge's rebound love interest but was he ever dull! Very much looking forward to season three.SpoilerFrance thing
The Gilmore Girls comment was I felt that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took on a little too much mom-and-her-daughter-chick-flick of a vibe. I thought it lost the edge and wit that really had me hooked on season 1. The France thing or right after they came back is about where I got off the bus.
I didn't like the Juliana Crane character either. I can't put my finger on why, but it seems to be a pretty common refrain about this show.I'm only just finished with Season 1 of Man in the High Castle but my only complaint is I'm not a huge fan of Julianna Crane as an actor.
SpoilerMaybe it's her charachter but she seems like a terrible spy. Caught in two worlds in her love life and it affects her judgement. I can however see the good in her because she can handle herself pretty well and is quick thinker but she just annoys me for some reason.
I do really like the Japanese/Nazi main charachters though. Good actors and interesting storylines.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: Amazon Pilots
We're asking Nick Nolte for character references? Really? It's come to this?

Re: Amazon Pilots
Well, you get something. President-elect Roosevelt is successfully murdered by Zangara (of course in real life it was a failed assassination) thus depriving America of critical leadership. His death starts a chain reaction that includes the Germans dropping an atomic bomb on Washington DC. Pretty tidy and simplistic but the single event that started it all was huge.Comment

Re: Amazon Pilots
Not really, LOL. It's more about Robert's petty comments about Nolte years after they did I Love Trouble together. Early on she called him "completely disgusting" to which he replied, "she's not a very nice person and everybody knows it" and in 2009 indirectly mocked him while on the David Letterman show.
During their movie, Julia would throw temper tantrums while Nolte would egg her on rather than acquiesce to her bad behavior.Last edited by JayBee74; 01-17-2019, 09:49 PM.Comment

Re: Amazon Pilots
That would have been nice for the show to have told me this rather than needing to rely on a message board. lol. I made it through nearly 2 episodes and don't remember hearing that factoid. Well, I remember some casual remark about Washington D.C. getting flattened by a nuke but none of the context for how that came to be. I think I was hoping for more of an emphasis on history/politics/military when it's more of a thriller/drama. Maybe that was just a miscalculation on my part.Well, you get something. Re: Amazon Pilots
I could have used more alternate history references too, like the one I mentioned earlier about actor John Wayne being killed in the Battle Of Dayton between 1945-47. It was brought up as a couple of the characters were trying to sell a piece of.SpoilerStagecoach/John Wayne memorabiliaComment

Re: Amazon Pilots
There was a story going around that she once fled to Paris while shooting a movie to get over a breakup. The director tried talking her back but she acted like a spoiled brat. Eventually she was told she'd be replaced and would not get paid for any work performed up to that point. She came back that day.Not really, LOL. It's more about Robert's petty comments about Nolte years after they did I Love Trouble together. I've also heard stories that she screwed over her brother who helped get her foot in the door.
And then the whole stealing a married man and wearing a t-shirt mocking the ex-wife in the process.
Danny Moder's wife at the time was named Vera. Julia and Danny had a fling, but Julia decided she wanted to marry Danny. Vera refuse to walk away quietly and refused to be bought off.
Because Vera wouldn't agree to a divorce on Julia's terms, spoiled brat Julia got pissy and paraded around in a homemade t-shirt that said "A-low Vera", knowing full well the paparazzi would take pics and get them published in the tabloids.
Oh, and Vera was pregnant when the affair began.
I've never found her attractive or to be a good actor. Reading about what a massive B she is in real life only helps sour my opinion.
If this came at me in the night, I would request an old priest and a new priest:

They have actually mentioned it multiple times, that DC was flattened. That would have been nice for the show to have told me this rather than needing to rely on a message board. lol. That is why the NAZI HQ is in NYC and not DC. They also have mentioned multiple times that that NAZI's won the war because they beat the Allies to making the atomic bomb.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Amazon Pilots
I remember watching Bryan Cranston accepting some award for his Walter White role a few years back mentioning his "Sneaky Pete" days. I wonder if that was well before he got the ball rolling on an actual series?Comment
