        1. True, but there is an entire forum dedicated to consoles. Notice how there are no other threads related to consoles in here.
        2. Don't be surprised if your new thread over there gets deleted or merged with the Playstation 4 Discussion thread.

In-home 3D is dying. I don't see why Sony would waste time with it anymore.

I guess some people like it, and that's fine. But I hate 3d, seems gimmicky, and just doesn't do anything for me.

I think it sucks that it was left out too. Just another reason to keep the PS3 hooked up.

Personally, I don't like when movie producers go out of their way to shoot a film differently because it's in 3D, if that makes sense. The second they do that, they lose the art of the 2D cinematography immediately. A film like Titanic which was post-converted lost nothing technically, and its 3D experience was amazing all the meanwhile. That's also I'm excited to see if Nolan still does Inception in 3D for the same reason.

Anyway, all that said, 3D in theaters is the more immersive experience but it doesn't excite me the same way it does at home. I think it's more because like... I have it but none of my friends do, if that makes sense? It's kind of bragging rights that I can bring that experience home with me and most don't have the same luxury. If everyone else did, I wouldn't feel quite as compelled to have it.

                It's probably why I still don't have a Smartphone.

                  Re: PS4's lack of 3D blu ray...is....

This current rollout of 3D has been a disaster, which is why 3D didn't "save the tv industry" as they predicted. Having exclusive 3D movies tied to particular tv brands when there was already a lack of content was stupid. Also the active shutter glasses were bulky ,expensive ($75-125 per pair...which has now gone down considerably) and also tied down to a particular tv. You couldn't take your expensive 3D active shutter glasses to a friends house if they had a different tv.

Now that there are quality 3D titles out there (Avatar, Pacific Rim, Titanic, Dredd, Adventures of Tin Tin, most animated movies like Monsters U, HTTYD), most people have moved on. Too little, too late. Luckily other than Vizio, most brands are leaving 3D in....it's basically a "check off" feature at this point. Why not throw it in on your premium sets?

I doubt many people will give at home 3D another chance until it's glasses free.

Of course 4K is the next big thing to "save the tv industry". 4K actually gives passive 3D, 1080P resolution in both eyes vs. 540P as it currently exists.

To the OP, if push comes to shove you can just pick up a stand alone 3D blu ray player for $50-60.

I just dont get why you can play PS4 games in 3D but not movies.

Because they are completely separate applications. Getting the video API 3D ready is relatively simple, 3D was just low priority for the Bluray decoder/media player (probably near the bottom for BD playback).

I don't think it's a question of can't, it's more of they don't want it to. For whatever reason Microsoft and Sony have changed the vision of their consoles from a do everything to a its only for gaming.
