They were never serious characters. I think their death showed how unsubstantial they were. It was almost cartoonish.

    Loved this show.
I thought it was a great demise too.

He had more then some redemption. That was a great scene (IMO).

The ice cracking was very fitting. Just like Lester's life. He kept running and the cracks caught up to him the more he ran. Then he sank.

        Re: Fargo

This series was as much about lessons in life - that in the end, sometimes the good guys/gals win - as anything. I think to appreciate it, we will have to go back and re-watch it, listening to the subtle cues througout. It's packed with metaphors and riddles.

For example: when Molly tells Lester that tale about the gloves / train story. Lester acts dumb - doesn't get it. Why? Because the story is about doing good to another person. Lester's soul cannot get that because the "new Lester" (his words) has lost any sense of compassion for another.

Yet, when the 2 FBI agents are with Lester in the car, and Lester is given the riddle of the animals and the cabbage - Lester fully comprehends that story, and solves the riddle. Why? Because that story is about selfishness - what can one do for one's own gain.

I really think this show was the best I've ever watched - I'm not a week-to-week sitcom/series kind of guy. They've always lacked depth, and the pace tends to be too slow for my liking. This was different because we got engrossed in the characters, yet the pace didn't take forever.

The ending is a metaphor - a "family portrait" of what life can be like - the GOOD that is in people.

        My .02.

Maybe I am remembering completely wrong, but I thought when they flashed ahead to a year in the future a few episodes ago they mentioned some kind of massacre. Was that referring to Malvo inside that office building that K&P were watching?

            @mkharsh33 nailed it!

Cohen Bros. stories (and this may as well have been written by them) always have an "Aesop's Fables meets Looney Tunes" sensibility / ethical core...

Heck, the "bear trap" scene to Lester's poetic demise alone, even had a vague "Roadrunner v. Coyote" feel to it...

            GREAT series...

Yes, that was the reason the feds were sent to the records room. They were interested in solving it so they could get their old jobs back.

Kinda liked having it as 10 episodes and that's it, but it's too good to not want it back.

Can't wait to hear about the cast. The second season takes place in 1979.

When I saw this I immediately thought of the incident involving Lou Solverson that was referred to a few times...

                            Apparently, that's the "case":
