    Optical audio cable question.

First of all I don't move my surround sound setup around, it stays in one place. My question is if my subwoofer and my surround sound speakers wont play but the 3 speakers upfront will,is that an issue with the optical cable?I don't see how 3 speakers can go out at the same time. I miss the surround sound when watching movies and playing the XB1.

Check your receiver settings and XB1 settings, make sure they are set to play through all speakers.

I don't have an XB1, and unless you have a Yamaha receiver, I won't be able to be of much help as to what to do to change it. There are just so many options, that it's hard to say which setting it is that will make it happen.

Regardless of your cable, your receiver can force surround sound whenever it wants to with the right settings. It won't necessarily be true surround, but it should be able to play audio out of those speakers. In other words, your speakers aren't out or anything... unless your receiver itself screwed up.

It happened before I bought my Xbox,I didn't change any settings, it just all of a sudden had no bass and no surround sound, the other 3 speakers upfront play just fine.

My Yamaha has a setting called Pure Direct, where it will only play the FL and FR speakers. No sub, no center, no surrounds.

It also has a setting called Straight, where it is doing zero decoding and it is letting the device before it do it, depending on the cables that you have. Things like music and SD commercials will just play FL/C/FR/S, no surrounds. Other things, like HD broadcasts and movies, will play everything.

I don't know what your issue is. Maybe there is too much wattage for the receiver. What model do you have? Or what is your entire system set-up in general?

Like Blzer said, a lot of broadcast's won't be in 5.1. The best way to tell if your speakers are working properly is to find a blu ray that support Dolby or DTS surround. If you play that movie and the surrounds aren't working, there's either a setting or hook up that you need to troubleshoot. If it's a receiver then you'll just select DTS or Dolby. If it's a HTIB, I'd imagine it'd be very similar.

The optical cable won't have anything to do with it. I know a lot of people who use an optical cable for audio on a 5.1 system and have no problems.
