To be honest I felt the same way you did about the Avengers. Yet, I also felt that way about DC's Trinity battling together.

I just think there's more than one approach to building a cinematic-universe. Marvel's route was successful, but they were also risk-managing since it had never been done before. The characters they were working with aren't as universally recognizable as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

DC is unfortunately in a "catch-up" state where they're scrutinized more heavily than Marvel is. Either way I feel like people will find negatives in any approach that they take. Matters aren't helped when the product isn't too enthralling or good either.

Suicide Squad is set after BvS. Also, Ben Affleck doesn't have grey hair. That was just for the movie. I think we're safe in the "he's getting too old!" department.

I might not read the Internet enough to see what majority of opinions take form, but I always felt they got criticized for trying to play catch-up to fast. It might have even been in this thread where I asked, "Why does the timing matter?"

Granted, someone provided a good answer in saying that eventually superhero films won't be the thing (like 3D films, zombie films, ghost kid films, or whatever), so they're trying to get their money here and now. Eh, maybe... maybe not.

The difference with Marvel is that their actors are aging, or at least Downey is. They don't have the luxury of taking time, and furthermore they don't want to kill any momentum. Like, who will care about Chronicle 2 when it comes out? That ship has come and gone.

I felt personally befuddled that they wanted a new Batman on the screen so quickly after TDKR, then I got confused that they were exploding on the scene with a team-up movie, and I am still a bit perplexed as to why they thought they had to rush all of this. To me it just seemed a bit weird.

I don't work in the movie business, but I think this "competition" thing is just a bit too strange that they had to push this film out the door so quickly. I just feel people would have seen their movie regardless of whether it was 2016 or 2026. I don't think the Internet would have been making fun of them for plodding till the right moment.

Marvel just did it right, and patiently. Now they are losing patience because of the actors' ages (and it's not like we're talking Ian McKellen status here, but I don't want them to ride the Bruce Willis train either), but they have planned this so well from beginning to end, whether or not the movies were all that I hoped they would be.

At this point, I don't think we're butting heads at all. I just think they slipped up, most people agree, and it even caused WB to make some pretty rash changes. Outside of executive decisions, they have provided Ayer more freedom to shoot SS as needed and have delayed other future projects until they know what it is they truly want. I've never felt that way with Marvel's productions.

I was referring more to the character than the actor, but that actor's character even more specifically haha. I just want a prequel to look like a Batman in his prime is all.

Strange as ever decision to get him right at the end of his career. I mean I get why they did it and I know how it's used, but again for a franchise kick-starter it comes off as bizarre to me.

We've literally gotten that "in his prime" version of Batman for the last 7 movies. It's nice to get a different, older, Batman.

I don't know if I can count Burton's and Schumacher's movies for anything. I think all of them are terrible.

My only point was if they were building a universe, he could progress into "past his prime." They somewhat did that in TDKR, given that it was eight years without any action (I'm guessing just around 40 years old). Not quite that old.

I must not be making my point right. See, I'm merely assuming this universe will run at least ten years, if Marvel is running past that. So, "past his prime" and pretty much on his way out, for the next ten years? Maybe break his back for a while and come back, yeah? I would get this one if it was the end of the run, or if it was a one-time film or what have you.

I think you're over thinking things. At the very least you've thought about this more than WB and DC have.

It is a little strange that we're starting with 'old Batman' to kick off the DCU. Granted that can just be glossed over in future movies, this was just a callback to the source material for this story.

Well hopefully he hasn't thought about this more than WB & DC lol, that would be sad (both sides).

Re: Batman Vs Superman - Dawn Of Justice

Just saw this and have about the same sentiment as the less than hardcore DC crowd. This was just clearly another example of how no level of glitz can save a poorly written story. I actually did like Gadot once I saw her in action. But Eisenberg as LL is just not a good fit. Maybe they should have branded him as someone else (sorry, I don't know the DC Universe that well). The only other actor that seemed more out of place was Holly Hunter.

Overall, I just wasn't wow'd by much of anything. Also, I didn't know Supes was Scottish.

But if you change the ingredients...who knows? I don't expect it to be a great version as opposed to the theatrical cut, but an extra 30 minutes in the right places could make a sizeable difference.
