I just recently introduced C&H to my 11YO son. I don't know if I've heard him laugh that loud before.
It's so bad we don't allow him to read the strip in bed for fear he'll wake-up his 7YO brother and 1YO sister.

It's great watching him discover this incredible strip. Just like I did when I was nearly his age.

Calvin & Hobbes; simply the best.

Read the Pastis article this weekend....then read the comics and instantly saw the Watterson style.

I have the complete Calvin and Hobbes collection (hardcover) and plan on reading them with my son when he's old enough!

Tried to watch the Watterson special on Netflix, but couldn't get into it at the moment. Maybe I'll try again. I can't imagine these comics even touching C&H. Bar is too high.

If you mean the documentary called Dear Mr. Watterson then i'll tell you it's GREAT.

I LOVED C&H and I think in a lot of ways it was the Peanuts for a whole generation except Calvin isn't quite the somewhat downcast philosopher that Charlie Brown is. Watterson may have been right to end the strip when he did but man....I wish we could get new material.

Pearls is probably my favorite current strip and Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite ever. When I first saw the strips in question, I didn't recognize it, and upon looking back, I'm disappointed that I didn't catch it earlier! Loved Pastis' sense of humor and humility concerning the entire situation.
