Without giving too much away about the plot, the movie's sort of a cross between Groundhog Day and Call of Duty, with maybe a little Gears of War thrown in (in terms of the military exoskeletons used). The movie has one of the best/original science fiction concepts I've seen in a movie in years imo. Tom Cruise is excellent; his progression in the movie from where he starts to what he becomes is very believable and really well done. I've always liked Emily Blunt and she's great in the movie also. As is Bill Paxton as a Cmd Sergeant Major. I really liked the aliens' design and their "alien" movement.
Movie has everything a great summer movie should have, except buzz - it's very entertaining. It's laugh out loud funny at times, as Tom Cruise's character is "learning" - reminded me of how you die repeatedly trying to advance in a videogame level, learning a little more with each play through. The movie's directed by the guy that did one of the Bourne Identity movie's and the direction's excellent; things never get repetitive or seem to drag. It probably won't get a big box office here as some people don't like Tom Cruise for whatever reason; imo he's up there as one of the great movie stars of today. For me the movie's up there with Captain America Winter Soldier as the most entertaining movies I've seen this year. May go to see it again next week
