Rockford Files? Maverick? Come on guys, 8 Simple Rules and The Notebook were certainly his biggest hits.

Just thought of him the other day. Figured he was getting kind of old. Of course loved him in Maverick. My Fellow Americans isn't terrible either.

The 1994 Maverick movie was a bigger hit than The Notebook.

I would have to disagree. He was only on for a season and a half or so of Rules. Rockford Files ran for 6 years and Maverick ran for 5 years and I am pretty sure the awards for those 11 years of TV go beyond 45 episodes of 8 simple rules.

Obviously I am a big fan, grew up watching him on the Rockford Files. He will be missed

Like mentioned before, 8 Simple Rule was awesome role he was in. Just unfortunate that show wasn't able to rebound after Johns death, they brought in James Garner and David Spade to fill that hole, and honestly if the show just started like how it went on after John died, it would've been great show, but most people couldn't get over the show going on after he died and that's what hurt it.

But was always funny seeing James Garner and David Spade together on 8 Simple Rules. So many funny moments with "Jim and CJ".

He was a Korean War veteran and he also received two Purple Hearts while serving in Korea. He was a good man seen him on the tonight show once right after the actor that played his father on the Rockford files passed away. The host ask him if they remained friends after the show and he told the host in fact that they did and he fell apart right there and weeped and they had to go to break to let him recover. I thought it was very touching and enjoyed what ever show he was on. RIP James Garner
