    Jigsaw (2017)

Well, it was always inevitable. It may return to the big screen two summers from now after all.

As the 2004 horror Saw gears up to return to cinemas in celebration of its tenth anniversary, producers Mark Burg and Orek Koules have been talking to Shock Till You Drop about the horror series, with the duo hinting that series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell could be set to return for an eighth […]

I always thought a TV spin-off would've been the next best idea, kind of showing the time after Saw IV how Jigsaw left his mark. My other thought was a reboot with a much younger John Kramer (out of graduate college or so, meeting a girl named Jill Tuck), before his cancer struck and everything else. More of a thriller with sequels that churn out more in his point of view.

I think the best thing that would be coming from this, really, is it's the original creators and they are motivated. I hope that they can find a way to ground this back to the roots of the original Saw film, though.

Can't believe they're making another one, I'll definitely watch it though. Saw series is very underrated imo.

I agree with this. Most people bash the whole franchise but I really liked the first two and enjoyed the third. After that I really lost interest.

          Saw VI was great, IMO.

Saw V started off high for me for a while, then it dropped lower and lower.

I would watch this just for the original people. 1 had some great drama and mental aspects that I feel the series has lost over time.

I'd be interested to see what they bring back to make it less of a "top the previous gore fest" mindset.

I agree that Saw lost some of the maniacal mental aspects that sort of defined the early parts of the series, however there were still enough twists and turns to keep me interested throughout all 7.

I'm definitely in if the original creators return for number 8. Just wondering how they plan to tie it to the original 7.

Can a moderator help update the thread title to Jigsaw (2017)?

                  First poster revealed:

                  IMDb plot details (unofficial):

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade.
Kind of reminds me of how I would have done that TV series.

I loved the Saw series overall, the gore and twist at the end made the movie. The first one is still my favorite simply for that twist and shock factor. I loved them more with Tobin Bell he was perfect for Jigsaw. I'll check it out for sure and see all the strange ways people in up dying.

                      New trailer:

I didn't watch it, but just jumped around and saw a way different tone. Count me in I guess, but I want to know as little as possible before seeing it, so I'll try and avoid trailers and simply just post them if I find them.

Film officially comes out Friday. I'll be seeing it Thursday night.

In anticipation for the film's release, I re-watched all seven films and wrote a Top 5 moments in Saw film franchise history blog (major spoilers).

By the way, also upon rewatching I have swapped the top two rankings:

                        1
                        3
                        6
                        2
                        5
                        4

                          Re: Jigsaw (2017)

Well, I liked it enough. I have a lot to say about those impressions though, not all are fantastic but it sits pretty middle of the road.

Went back and watched the trailer though. That trailer is dope!

I'll write deeper spoiler-free impressions tomorrow, probably (or as spoiler-free as I can be). Here's what I posted on Facebook:

Jigsaw is a reignition (note: NOT reboot) of the original Saw franchise, playing very accessibly to a general audience with entertaining viscera and information overload that will leave you processing, discussing, and perhaps even rewatching. It has not forgotten its roots almost playing as a later direct sequel to the first film, but also understood where to breathe new fresh air.

I currently put it after Saw II in my rankings.

                          EDIT: Full impressions here.

Well this was incredible. If this franchise guarantees anything, it's blood and a huge twist (not to be confused with this twist from Saw 3).
