Re: OS' Best Album of 2014

It's been a pretty awesome year for my favorite bands. I was only somewhat disappointed by one as they make a stylistic change.

      "Oh, Common Life" by Fireworks
"What Matters Most" by Forever Came Calling
      "Life Lessons" by Handguns
"The New Sidewalk" by Such Gold
"The Acoustic Things" by State Champs
"Wolverines" by I Am The Avalanche
      "Cult" by Bayside
"There's Nothing Wrong With Me" by Major League
      NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
      NFL - Buffalo Bills
      MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Not sure I'd be able to formulate a fair, full, Top 10 list, however, my favorite album of the year was Metamodern Sounds in Country Music by Sturgill Simpson. If you haven't given it a listen, you should, because it's pure quality. Has a classic country feel with a touch of lyrical oddity and indie spirit. It's fantastic.

This was a down year for me in terms of music. I only bought a handful of albums.

My Top 5 released this year:

                    1. R.E.M. - Unplugged 1991/2001
                    2. Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways
                    3. The Whigs - Modern Creation
                    4. Linkin Park - The Hunting Party
                    5. U2 - Songs Of Innocence

My Top 3 is the only Albums I bought this year. In no order...

Jeezy - Seen It All: The Autobiography
Best Song: Enough, Holy Ghost, How I Did It (Perfection) (NSFW)

Joe Budden - Some Love Lost
Best Song: Poker In The Sky (NSFW)

                      J. Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive
                      Best Song: Wet Dreams (NSFW)

I tried to narrow it down to one song a piece, but all 3 of these I can go all the way through without skipping a song. Joe was hands down the best this year for Rap/Hip-Hop IMO

                      Honorable Mention

                      Kendrick - I (NSFW)
Because it's a positive song if you understand what he's saying. Probably the only rap song I was able to play around my grandparents that they liked and actually danced to lol

Absolutely. I think what I love most about it is that it's got a classic outlaw country feel to it while being totally fresh at the same time.

                                *edit*

I see y'all are already discussing. I had the pleasure of meeting Sturgill a few years ago when he was playing with Sunday Valley--great dude and an incredible talent.
