    Re: X-Men: Apocalypse

I saw it and enjoyed it a lot, at least for a summer blockbuster. I wasn't very high on Days of Future Past, either because too much Wolverine or too much Mystique... not sure.

Anyway, I think I'd have a lot to say about this movie, though a lot of it would be wrapped up in spoilers, and I'm probably just going to wait for the discussion to start about it. The main issues with this movie, for me at least, stem with the very confusing timeline. I don't know if I'm expecting anything from X1-X3 to be considered canon at all, or even at the end of DOFP! I'm talking future scenes and the Stryker scene! I am just so confused.

Apocalypse was pretty cool, though his recruiting scenes dragged a little in the beginning. It all reminded me a bit of Avengers: Age of Ultron, since he saw the world he was in and made up his mind that the human race was the cause of doom and gloom on earth (though his motives for overtaking it were far different, more on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon end of things like Sentinel Prime).

I like how some things came full circle though, and I thought it hit some of the right emotional marks. Speaking of emotion, there were maybe two or three moments where I found myself laughing at the screen but nobody else was. They weren't even clever subliminal moments, but rather they were right in our face. Kind of strange.

The one problem this film kind of has though, and this does go back to the X1-X3 series as well as any films hereon out, is the escalation is tough to top from here. I liked the X1-X2 run when most people's powers kind of felt "equal" in a way. But now, when you get dudes like Apocalypse and the like, it kind of throws things out of whack. I also think Bryan Singer's action scenes still are a bit drab or too cartoony, but that seems like that's how all of the X-Men movies have been, really. As much as I praise First Class, even some of their guys (Emma Frost, Banshee, Angel, and Riptide) are really not my favorites either. Oh well. Great Quicksilver scenes, of course. Even tops the kitchen scene in DOFP. Loved it.

Not sure where this one sits overall, but it certainly wasn't bad. Then again, I didn't hate X3 either (and with these ones "making up" for what X3 did wrong, I think people should be more tolerating of it). I was getting a feeling early on though that this one was like the X3 of the new series, and that's probably how it's being felt by the masses. But this film was no slouch, not in the least. I recommend it for sure if you have been attuned with all of the X-Men films thus far.

Kinda surprised to see not many people here liked Days of Future Past. I thought it was amazing and one of the best comic book movies out there.

I saw it this morning, didn't like it at all and I felt Apocalypse was horrible. The four horseman were pretty uninspired as well.

Thought it was ok, but expected...I dunno, better I guess...from Apocalypse.

Think this one is soundly below the first two but still enjoyable.

OK movie. Apocalypse was "meh", wasn't too crazy about Storm, loved Quicksilver and Cyclops and Jean grew on me as the movie went on.

I'm with others in that I can do without the Mystique Overkill but other than that, it was OK.

I thought the movie was okay; I'd place it several notches below First Class and Days of Future Past myself. Wasn't enough exposition given to the characters - they really didn't explain much of anything regarding Apocalypse's powers imo and it was assumed you were familiar with everyone else. While I know this is a reboot of sorts, you rarely see the X-Men fighting as a team in these movies - something they've been known for in the comics. And was captured really well in Civil War.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Just saw this last night and was disappointed. There where some good parts loved how we got another kind of joke thing with the fast guy like we did in DOFP but I thought the movie over all was kind of boring. First class and DOFP where much better movies then this.

Saw this in 3D yesterday. It was pretty good....dragged along in the beginning. Two of the bad guys felt like fillers for the most part. Good action in the final battle. BTW, I kept thinking to myself "that's Sansa Stark"

This was a more disappointing movie than Batman vs Superman for me. Holy **** was Apocalypse a let down. Such a corny, lame portrayal of the villain - and probably my least favorite super hero movie villain of all time. Even the dude who's name I don't remember from Thor 2 didn't disappoint me that much.

Action scenes were okay. Quicksilver was money in most of his big parts.

And, since I'm a sucker for the X-Men, I still hope there's another one and if it has the same cast I'll be there because the new ones did grow on me....but man, this was a big bummer.

                            Re: X-Men: Apocalypse

Box office figures, doing relatively poor domestically, but very well internationally.
X-Men: Apocalypse finished in second with an estimated $22.3 million, a 66% drop from its opening weekend, much steeper than expected and is now likely to find the film finishing somewhere in the range of $160-165 million domestically. For some perspective, that's just over where the first X-Men film finished back in 2000, is right around where X-Men: Days of Future Past was after just ten days in release, where Deadpool was at after just five days and less than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made in its opening weekend.

Internationally, however, X-Men: Apocalypse is delivering. The film brought in an estimated $84.4 million this weekend, which includes an estimated $59 million in China, the second largest Fox opening in China behind only the Titanic re-release and $20 million more than Days of Future Past opened with. The film's international total is now up to $286 million, bringing its global cume to just over $400 million, currently placing it within the top ten for 2016. Should this trend continue, Apocalypse would end somewhere around $650 million globally, which is about $100 million less than Days of Future Past.

I didn't feel like throwing in a bunch of spoiler tags throughout this so I made sure not to get too specific, I consider this pretty much spoiler free but if I made a mistake there let me know and I will edit it.

First off, let me just say that Quicksilver is AWESOME. He is the best part of this movie IMO and I love the treatment they gave him in this and Future Past

After everything I read about this movie I went into it expecting to hate it, but I found myself shockingly entertained. I dunno if this had anything to do with extremely low expectations or what, but I feel like maybe I am crazy because I thought the movie was pretty great. Maybe not "legit great" but a solid, good movie. I would probably give it a solid 7 or a high 6

I feel it tied together the "First Class" trilogy and while the timeline is still kind of weird to me, based on my understanding of the comics, it at least sets up some cool stuff for the future. Yes, this movie does feel very familiar at points, but there is good action, some well established plot points and some heart in here.

Some questionable editing, and not the most inspired direction IMO, I mean you've got Fassbender, Lawrence, McAvoy, you gotta let these studs go wild a little a bit, serious Grade A actors here. They let Jackman carry Future Past, which was smart, but with him not in the forefront here I felt there was some unbalance as far as screen presence. Munn, for example, didn't seem like she belonged on the same screen as Fassbender and Co.

The thing is, this trilogy has some really solid castings. Hard to match the Avengers universe in that regard, but the problem is there's a big dropoff, it's like in Madden if you got 7 players who are 90+ and the rest of the team is 60s. Overall it is still a very solid cast, and adding Sansa Stark and Oscar Issac straight off of Force Awakens is great (I thought he was great as Apocalypse, but that seems to be one of the most panned aspects of the film by everyone else. I understand that technically you probably could have put anyone under all that makeup, but still).

Really the only newcomer I feel is a legit weakness is Munn/Psylocke. I mean, really, that's the Psylocke we were waiting for? Also have no idea why Jubilee is in this movie other than for people who know who Jubilee is to say "Oh look, that must be Jubilee." I also hate how criminally under-used Colossus has been in all these films from day 1, in most cases underused means not used at all. I love that character. They've ignored sensible time continuum enough already, why not just bring Iceman and Colossus back as well. If you're gonna bend rules, bend em all the way. I also HATE that Rogue was never done right, IMO. I really hope at some point we get the real Rogue.

Honestly though considering the BvS level of hate this film was getting I thought it would be Fantastic Four level bad but I really enjoyed the movie. There is a lot there for the fans. Yeah, a thing or two are/were basically just rehashed from prior films/differnt Xmen universes I guess, but they were done better this time around IMO. I mean one rehash in particular I felt was awesome, I almost wish I hadn't seen so many clips in the trailers, but I guess I would have guessed it right before it happened anyway.

I feel like the main purpose of this trilogy, especially Future Past, was basically to say "Whoops, our bad about X3 and Origins," and the trilogy was tasked to basically rebuild the base for the franchise. I feel it does that pretty well. X3 was a disaster of epic proportions IMO, almost unspeakably awful. I've seen reviews online calling this movie a "franchise killing" failure, which just seems a little harsh to me.

They can go a lot of different ways now. The trilogy gave us Future Past, Sebastian Shaw/Hellfire Club, and Apocalypse. I hope they go out with a bang for the next Wolverine movie (will miss Jackman as Wolvie....) and don't screw up the Gambit stand-alone, hopefully setting up an epic X-Men movie after. I think Singer did a good job with this one but I am glad he won't be doing the next one. I think it's time to evolve a little with this series and maybe get a bit edgier. I think some new, fresh direction could go a long way in helping these movies become Billion Dollar Babies like the Avengers/Civil War universes. Keep the main core of great actors together as much as possible

I dunno where they are gonna go but I would love to see a Dark Pheonix Saga at some point, I would like to see Mister Sinister, I would like to see Proteus, I would love to see House of M (this seems like the least likely to make it to the big screen though.
