So Fox is developing an X-Men tv show.

Marvel’s X-Men could be making its small screen debut soon.

US channel Fox is in negotiations to adapt a live action series for TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Former Star Trek 3 screenwriting duo Patrick McKay and JD Payne are set to pen the potential TV show, with 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto also on board.

X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinber hinted at the prospect of a TV show last April, citing the success of ABC’s Agents of SHIELD (2013) and Netflix’s Daredevil (2015).

How do you cite the success of Daredevil when it hasn't released though?

Although Twentieth Century Fox holds the film rights, Fox still requires a green light from X-Men comics’ publisher Marvel to approve a deal for TV.

Anyway, I have low hopes but curious to see what group they go with.

I wonder what time period they are gonna go with. I hope they don't mess this up, and we all know they aren't gonna use any of the popular characters so what are they gonna do? Use a bunch of kids that just graduated from mutant school?

Well they have a ton of choices as far as who they use. If it's teens I wouldn't mind a Generation X lineup of Jubilee and Co. Of course they wouldn't be able to use Emma Frost as a headmistress since she's a big part of the movies but Banshee might not be out of the question. I saw on Nerdist today that the Quicksilver character from Days of Future Past could be involved so it could be set in the 70's if they don't decide to use an older version of him.

More recently, however, there have been rumors that Fox plans to return the X-Men to TV in a live-action series based on Peter David’s X-Factor comics: a spinoff of the main series that focused on a detective agency run by mutants.

There has also been talk of Quicksilver (Evan Peters) being part of the cast, but obviously it’s still early days.

Marvel currently only seems interested in pursuing TV shows that can crossover with its cinematic universe, and since that universe does not include the X-Men there’s little motivation for Marvel to make its own X-Men TV series. With that in mind, the only reason that Marvel might refuse permission would be to undermine Fox as a competitor, but hopefully the two studios can find a peaceable agreement.

I was a big fan of X-Factor back in the day... even liked it more than The Avengers (yeah, I know). If the TV show is a go, I hope they go this route. It's still hard for me to accept anything called "X-Men" that doesn't have Professor X, Storm, Wolverine and Cyclops... pretty close feelings about Beast and the main villains too. This would be a way of not worrying about the big names but still staying connected.

That would be pretty cool, but since they did the X-Men Origins movie I don't know they could pull it off and stay connected to the Marvel movie series (seems like a requirement for this to happen... similar to Shield, and I guess Agent Carter). Would have to have the same actor at least for Charles... story line adjusted a bit?

Well X-Men 1 does sort of jump in with several members established. It seemed like one of the major jobs was to introduce Wolverine and make him intriguing and impacting, which they did. I didn't realize this had to be tied to the movie which makes the actual origin idea a wash. Too bad.

I only got the "tie in" from reading this thread. It does make sense though. Fox needs to get the okay from Marvel; Marvel wants to have the buy in like the other Marvel tv shows (helps push the movies); Marvel won't give Fox the okay without the tie in... I could see that.

Absolutely, all the kids that's watched the one in 90s are all grown up now. I wonder why marvel doesn't come out with animated movies of X-men like they do other characters. I thought marvel had all rights to its characters in animated form. Unless I don't know about them

I don't think an animated show that's not a comedy will work on prime time... it just doesn't fit. The audience you're looking for watches DBZ, Naruto, Ghost in the Shell, etc. Those shows are in "prime" Adult Swim time, but we're still talking midnight to 3am est on Cartoon Network.

I actually really enjoyed the last Xmen animated show as an adult (can't remember how long ago it was on, but it was still a Saturday morning thing). I'd love to see a new one, but can't see it being on a major network or prime time.

I'm definitely not up on the animated movies (wish I was) but I can't think of too many done by Marvel. I know there are a lot by DC.

Highly unlikely. They won't have the budget or the time to pull of the effects. SHIELD doesn't do badly with that, however. But the ABC hat has it watered down.
