    Neil Blomkamp's "Aliens"

Since it's official and the first official piece of news about the movie came out today, figured we could start a new thread. I'm excited.

Blomkamp's Aliens will pick up where James Camerons "Aliens" ended.

Meaning...we might finally get a proper sequel to one of my favorite movies!

In an interview with Sky News (during a promotional tour for Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi flick Chappie), Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver revealed that they intend to give Ripley a "proper finish" - one the pair don't think was achieved in Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection.

"I want this film to feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of Aliens," said Blomkamp. "So it's Alien, Aliens, and then this movie".

"I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space, and give a proper finish to her story", said Weaver.

      Re: Neil Blomkamp's "Aliens"

Alien 3 gets a bad rap simply because the first two were so incredibly great that it was damn near impossible to live up to. It's actually pretty damn good, looking at it from a purely subjective standpoint. Resurrection was mediocre though, I'll give you that. Pity too, since they picked a great director to helm it. Just wasn't the "right" movie for Jeunet at the time. Fincher did a great job on 3 though, don't care what anyone says.

In any event, I'm up for another sequel/reimagining since I'm a big fan of the franchise in general.

The concept art work done by Blomkamp for this looks amazing...

Enjoy him as a director, so I'm definitely intrigued

I thought the second one was already called "Aliens". Is this gonna be "Aliens 5: Screw the Last 2 Movies and That Guano with the Predator Creatures" ?

Well, there is no official title for it yet and I hate thread titles that are worded like "Neil Blomkamp's Aliens Movie" so I went for the shorter version.

Once the movie has an official title, the thread name will be switched.

              I absolutely hated Alien3.

The whole plot rides on 1.) The alien queen pooping out an egg while in the landing gear of the dropship, and 2.) Ripley not going over the dropship and landing bay with a fine-toothed comb. I didn't buy it.

Little Newt gets drowned offscreen and then gets her chest cracked open with some gigantic bonesaw? Ugh.

A prison planet full of interchangeable English mopes, plus Roc and Dr. Tywin Lannister (who immediately gets offed)? Pass.

              Super-dodgy alien CGI? Bleah.

Really looking forward to this. I just bought the Alien Boxed Set on Blu Ray and need to watch them all again.

                  Re: Neil Blomkamp's "Aliens"

I am huge fan of the 1st 2. For me, the saga was nearly killed by Alien 3. Alien: Resurrection came out and did kill the saga, for a while. Alien Vs Predator tried to reboot the series. It brought back public interest, but failed to be nearly as good as the 1st 2. I guess, the plan is for this movie to make up for the abomination that is now known as Alien 3 and further. I have to agree with you guys. Every sequel after Aliens were horrible. Lets hope we can get, an improved version of Aliens and Alien, with this movie. I really hope we can get a real treat. James Cameron really set the bar to its highest point for sci-fi movies with Aliens. It stands today as the best sci-fi/horror flick, ever made. Prometheus, in my opinion is actually better than Alien. I think, the maker's of this movie needs to learn from the mistakes of Prometheus. My expectations for this movie are very high because I want to see more Alien sequels. When I see this movie, I plan to give it the same fair chance I gave Prometheus. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem is clearly a real stink bomb. That one, stands as the worst one of the saga. I don't think, I need explain why. Its been about 3 years since Prometheus, I think we're ready for another movie in this saga.

                      Re: Neil Blomkamp's "Aliens"

For me, Alien set the bar. Although the basic story had been told countless times before, the story angles that it worked in, plus the uniqueness of the monster itself was never done. The trailer itself was masterful for the time as Scott only revealed enough to entice audiences coming fresh off a Close Encounters movie where, let's face it, the crescendo was a bit of a let down with the kumbaya moment.

Sequels always run into a problem of outdoing the original as, largely, the novelty is gone. But I don't think that was Aliens primary shortcoming. First off, in casting, Paul Reiser, who was largely known as a stand-up and acting comedian, played the subtle villainous role not meant for him. Then we had Bill Paxton who seemingly marred the film with his hyper-cheesy, worrisome Marine performance with, coincidentally, that famous line that we, in our household, still utter today when something goes wrong: "We're grated cheese, man!" Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie as it was entertaining, but the novelty was gone.

So next year, 2016 will be 30 years since Aliens. A Ripley, Hicks, and Newt all alive and 30 years older sounds good to me to restart the story again.....

                          I liked;

"Hudson, this little girl lasted all this time all alone on her own"

                          "Then put her in charge"

                            Not fame. Cheese. Camp.

Compare his acting in this to the sheer terror portrayed by any actor in the first one. Apples and oranges.
